| Zoomtown Ping Issue
I just got back from college and realized a huge problem with my pings and traceroute. This is a tracert to google.com and after hte 7th hop it times out every hop. I'm pinging around 90 to servers in NY that I should be pinging 30 to. Recently a linux computer was installed on my network to act as a firewall(which i have no control over) and i'm not sure if that is the reason or not. Any suggestions?

| Not sure that the linux firewall is the problem but your latency issue start @ the first hop. the ping to the modem attached to your pc should be 1ms as far as I'm concerned your talking 6-8ft of cat 5 no excuse for a 2ms at all....
I see you are on one.net over Zoomtown. I thought ZT was leasing real world ip's now instead of 10.'s and then going to the UBR to get an outside ip address? Maybe that was fuse only. As far as latency is concerned it appears to be a one.net issue don't bother calling ZT.
I remember when I had ZT that I got less than 10ms up until I got outside the network. (about the 7-8 hop) |

| reply to Griffco From what I understand One.net is under Fuse.net. As for being 6-8 ft from the modem it's more like 20ft. :-/ I have the cable running upstairs through a heating duct to the basement and tried to put the router and modem as close to that point as possible. |
