1 edit | [Verizon Voicewing] Opinions?
I'm a current Verizon user for almost everything, paying 39.95/month for unlimited calling + taxes which a good price. But seeing that voicewing is now 24.95, I am tempted to drop my landline altogether. But I'm still cautious as to making the move from pots to voip. A few questions: 1. Will everything still run through the same phone jacks and work the same way? 2. Does it require any extra hardware (I currently have westell 327 modem/router for my dsl, which will be switched to data only line after my voicewing is up and running) 3. Can I keep my same phone number or will I have to cancel my landline first to do that? 4. How does the quality compare to pots? Is it staticy at all? 5. Is the service reliable? 6. Any other comments or concerns you want to add about the service that I should be aware of?
Thanks to any replies, I almost ready to make the switch but need some info. -- Spread Opera! The fast, sleek, and feature-rich browser! »opera.com

| reply to Rob A I would order the service first to get a temporary number. Then when you have it all setup and working and like it, port the wireline number over (if you are in a dry loop area). Just make sure DSL is being billed to a credit card first before you initiate the port.
Here are the answers to your other questions: 1. Possibly, if your house wiring supports 2 lines. The dry loop dsl will still use the phone line and still have voltage on it, so you will have to plug the ATA into line 2 of your wirirng. 2. They will send you an ATA, which you will plug into the Westell. The ATA will also have a phone port in it. Just plug it into Line 2 in your house. 4. Quality will be good as long as you don't saturate your bandwidth downloading or uploading. Then the audio will break up. 5. Yes. 6. E911 |

| reply to Rob A you do know that VoiceWing is completely outsourced to an independent VOIP provider that sells the same service under its own name, right? Verizon does the marketing, and cashes their commission check, but other than that they've got nothing to do with it. If that's OK with you, that you're using an independent VOIP provider's network, then you should be OK with looking at other independent VOIP providers like Vonage, Packet 8, Nuvio, ViaTalk, SunRocket, etc. |

1 edit | reply to Rob A I too have Verizon for everything...currently waiting for FIOS install May 15th. I tried Voicewing but didn't like having to always dial the area code + number to call out. Other than that it worked. I went to Viatalk for both my telephone lines and plan on porting the numbers in the future. Verizon VoiceWing does offer faxing with all their voip service. |

Cwmson, the area code thing is not a problem, as I live in NJ. In NJ, we must dial the area code for all calls, including in state calls. |

1 edit | reply to Rob A i ordered voicewing some months ago. the quality, on my verizon dsl was stunning really. it just sounded really clear. however there was a large problem that might/might not happen to someone else. i had a one-way sound issue, where i could hear everything the party at the other end said, but they could not hear any thing from my end. pretty big problem if you ask me. they were never able to resolve it. and it wasn't my router's fault, like the voicewing techs insisted. so i ended up terminating my account. hopefully anyone else who tries voicewing, everything works out for them. it's decent service, if it works.
answer to question number 3: you can almost always keep your same number, as long as your voicewing number is in the same area code. the number transfer process should take a short while, but should be painless in the end. |

| reply to Rob A I have had service for about 2 weeks now and so far so good. One problem that is just not related to me is that for some reason the info they gave me to login to my account manager online is not recognizing my info.
I guess others are having the same problem and so far have not resolved this issue, so I can setup features and check my usage. when you intially sign up make sure and ask how to access your messages, no guides were provided for me to use my service. -- Official Lineage 2 Junkie

| reply to Rob A Rob I had been looking into it....and I am more so looking into it now that they dropped the price....I called and asked a few questions....here is what I found out
I think you mentioned it...once you swith to voice wing you are switched to a DATA ONLY line and your DSL is supposed to be even better quality
in my area they have no local numbers but they told me that if i tried it and liked it then they could port my local number
on the trial phase you have 30 days to cancel or there is a fee..i forgot how much
if you drop your POTS your DSL will be 5.00 more a month
what I have done so far is I got a good deal on a vonage pap-2...was nearly free LOL...I unlocked it and signed up for voxee which is out going only 1.1 per minute....so far it is great....I really belive that ALOT of the kind of quality you get is REALLY going to rely on how good your broadband is
The only think I don't like about voice wing is it looks like they only have a 1 port ata which will be a pain for some of the faxing I do....and they will not let me use my own pap-2 but I am hoping they change that soon
