The serial channel that is inside the 5262 was not intended to be a consumer interface. It is the shell of the modem's internal operating system. But it has several useful controls and status reports that I use to monitor my connection and reboot the modem when it needs it.
Do you mean it is straight into the VxWorks Shell? If so, is it password protected or is that not possible on a direct serial interface? Very interesting.

Thanks for your great info.

That is very cool Thanks! I look forward to your followup. It's not VxWorks like you say, that's for sure!!

This is from a 5660:

VxWorks (for PowerPC MPC850SAR rev A.00 CPM rev. 0x0065) version 5.3.1.
Kernel: WIND version 2.5. Made on Mar 9 2001, 14:52:54.
Boot line: cpm(0,0)host:/wind/target/config/gal9/vxWorks value = 57 = 0x39 = '9'
