Undercutting prices. It's not 'not-normal' for a company to do, but it makes me wonder.. if these alternate video services (similar to cable being alternative phone services) are so good and going to be so much better, it makes me wonder why they undercut?
In the age of corporate greed and the days of gaining market, you would think that people would simply drop the horrible cable service and move over the phone for video with little need to nudge.
When cable went after phone, the prices are generally higher (as people note here all the time) and yet they are still making a huge dent in the POTS carriers. Why is Video not doing the same? It should be more of an all digital service, a slightly lower price, you think it would win.
I am just a little suspsicious of the need for them to come out and heavily discount the service (which some do) to win over the customer. We all know, in the end, that if the undercutting price happens and it hurts their competitor, the new winner always raises their price in the long run. (Pretty much like the move AT@T Broadband did in forcing out the @home service. Anyone ever remember AT@T Roadrunner Service?) |
