Malaria Control is a BOINC application in beta testing right now. A recent forum post on their site indicates that new account creation should be opened up in early June for the next phase of beta testing.
Crunch on! |

Maleria has an enormous impact. Looking at some of the the facts, it's even bigger than I initially thought:
"At least 500 million people are infected each year in the world, resulting in more than a million deaths [...]"
500 million people.. that's about 6-7% of the total world population... every year! Next to of course all the tragic deaths, it also is an heavy economical burden on many countries :
"Malaria has been estimated to cost Africa more than $US 12 billion every year in lost GDP."
Using BOINC, the number of computers below working on research could easily be increased by a great amount:
"The Swiss Tropical Institute has developed a computer model for malaria epidemiology and harnessed its in-house PC capacity, about 40 machines, to do preliminary studies. "
I'm certainly going to attach this project to my BOINC client when new accounts can be created. |

| Thank you for also keeping an eye on it!
A few days ago, I've added it to the list of websites/tabs that I open every single day, with the idea that I could quickly spread the word. So I too am keeping an eye on it. |

| said by cow116 :500 million people..... the population of the US It's even almost 1.7 times the current US population (~299mln)... but indeed, still an enormous number of people.
Before reading this on the project's website, I would never have expected so find a number that high!
I really hope that this project can make a useful contribution and I'm looking forward to the moment when account creation will be enabled again. |

quote: We ran into a problem here with the new wu types, which required another adaptation of the science app. We'll need version 531 before we can add the new wu types. If all goes well, we can open early next week. We will anounce this in the project news. Nick ____________
