I can't attest to spinrite 6, but i have version 5 that saved a couple drives from the dustbin.
One was a 12G drive that somehow had the foil seal on the sides scraped off by a messy drive bay..oops. Major dust contamination bummer. I resealed it, but the damage was done.
It was unusable for windows and chkdsk/scandisk couldn't fix it. It's now stable enough for *nix, although win32 still balks at the existing bad clusters that can't be fixed.
It's a good tool IMO, but it's not gonna fix everything. -- "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - A. Einstein |
