| Still unable to receive e-mail in Rfd, IL
I had several days of connectivity problems with Insight. Did all the things they said, reset router, reset modem, shut down computer... of course, nothing worked. The connection came back on its own after a few annoying days.
However, I am still unable to receive e-mail. I'm not just talking about through my e-mail program (Outlook Express), I mean, I don't even receive anything in my webmail when I go directly to the Insight website. In the past four days, I was able to get a few forum notifications, two ads from Amazon, one from Borders, and one e-mail from a human being. Other than that, I've received nothing at my Insight account, though I've tested it, sending from different e-mail addresses and asking others to do the same. It all bounces back to the originating address after a day or so.
I have no idea what's going on. I understand OE might be configured improperly after the change, but as I said, I'm not even receiving WEBmail except for the ones I mentioned, though other things have definitely been sent (gmail doesn't reach it, for instance - just bounces back as permanent failure to deliver. I usually get around 30 e-mails from people a day at the insight address and now they can't reach me). I'm able to send e-mail out to the addresses it won't deliver from, though it is running slow.
Is there anyone else who's had this problem? If sitting on the phone with these people will solve the problem, I'd be a lot more willing to deal with the wait. |

| Insight is having a lot of issues with their mail servers and their webmail right now. The Webmail is the best bet for right now, but it's not getting all of the mail that is being sent to it. They are switching to new mail servers this week, and they claim this will fix many of the issues.
So, I guess you'll just have to put up with the limited webmail until it's fixed...or you could always use your gmail for mail like that. |

| reply to crater9 I'm in the same boat as the original poster. And I'm not at all pacified by Mr. Willner's apology that offers no solution other than saying they have "slowed down the migration process". And they continue to say that they haven't decided if we're going to get credit or not. Baloney. Ask for credit and you'll get it. And just how hard can it be to tell their program to NOT mark email from Yahoo, AOL, or wherever as spam? In fact, just let ALL of my email through and I'LL decide what's spam. This is absurd. |

| reply to crater9 The problem is no that Insight is blocking e-mail. The problem is that Yahoo, etc., is blocking Insight. Insight had to contact every single place that was blocking you and ask them to remove their mail server IP address from it's blacklist.
And, no. The mail migration was completed last night. The change in the Webmail did not signify the changeover. |

| reply to crater9 Before the e-mail changeover (4 AM this morning), there was some e-mail that was just getting hung up in the server. This problem should be fixed.
The only thing that had to be done as far as "blocking" goes, was Insight had to ask those other companies to remove them from the blacklist. Nothing had to be done on Insight's side. |

| reply to crater9 So why was Insight blacklisted in the first place? Could it have anything to do with this:
WARNING: One or more of your mailservers is claiming to be a host other than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit code, followed by a space or a dash, then the host name). If your mailserver sends out E-mail using this domain in its EHLO or HELO, your E-mail might get blocked by anti-spam software. This is also a technical violation of RFC821 4.3 (and RFC2821 4.3.1). Note that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting should have an A record pointing back to the same server. Note that this one test may use a cached DNS record.
gateway.insightbb.com claims to be non-existent host asav03.manage.insightbb.com: 220 asav03.manage.insightbb.com ESMTP |

| reply to crater9 Due to the e-mail migration to the new backbone, the DNS for the mail servers changed before the actual IP address did. This may have caused the problem.
However, it actually just looks to be because those other companies detected too much spam coming from InsightBB. Nothing too complicated, just a mix up. |

| reply to ChrisRidfield Heh, it was a week-long mix-up, then. I tested out my e-mail this morning after reading this thread, and I'm still not getting forwards from gmail though I was able to before the "move." Also, a regular e-mail I sent to test out from gmail didn't make it, though another one ten minutes later did. So it's still being buggy, I guess.
(Again, this is through checking webmail, not even talking about my e-mail client.) |

| reply to crater9 I am having trouble with email.. I'm an engineer.. and PUT email in MIME format (containing diagnostics) by SMTP through ATT server to my Insightbb email address.. and then use my InsightBB Outlook Express to get the email to my Inbox to get the diagnostic messages for verification... this used to work... now I'm getting about 3 out of 4 messages... with 1 out of 4 apparently going to never never land.... I think it might have something to do with the Sprint server interpreting some of these emails as SPAM... whereas when Insight was on ATT it worked fine... Can anyone shed any light on what I can do to fix this? I've tried doing tech support with Insight, and they weren't smart enough to know how to get into the logs to see why these emails were hanging... Thanks... |

| reply to crater9 I'm continuing to have problems with mail delivery at Insight. A friend sent an email yesterday around noon and I didn't receive it. Got a few others from the same sender earlier in the day, just not this one. I had an online chat with Insight support this morning who said there wasn't anything they could do to investigate since I use Outlook rather than Outlook Express.
Well, the email that was sent yesterday at noon finally arrived at 4:18pm today. Same situation with a few others. That's about a 28 hour delay.
I've decided to use a different account and have given up on Insight for email service since it continues to be too unreliable. Nice job Insight.
I wonder how many others aren't getting their email yet! |

| reply to crater9 I gave up on Insight for email today and signed up for GMail. It comes through on Outlook just fine. I just about fainted dead away when I logged on tonight and had ALL 19 of my incoming emails! Wow! Email that goes where you send it and comes in when it's supposed to! Even got YahooGroups up and coming in again...through GMail, mind you, NOT Insight. They're still busted. |

Lately I've taken to calling the Insight help desk the "helpless desk". Certainly suits them better. |

| reply to crater9 We haven't been able to access our email via pop since last night. I tried connecting directly to the port 110 on mail.insightbb.com, and all I get is:
Trying 12.241.0.10... Connected to mail.insightbb.com. Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.
I can see the email in InsightBB's webmail -- I just can't get at it with pop. |
