My Comcast package advertises 8M/768k, and guess what, I consistantly get 8.2M/730k

Just because *you* may have had issues with Comcast, that doesn't mean every place has that same problem. I know many people around here that have no problem getting their full 8Mbps/768Kbps speeds all the time.
