 | Your poll does not allow voting. I voted for a new machine regardless. I tested beta 2, and no way is that going to be a smooth upgrade on an older machine. |

Congratulations! Your PC can run the core experiences of Windows Vista.
It says I can run everything except for the Media Center capabilities and the Photo, Movie, and Music.
Surprisingly, it says I can run Aero, even though this machine has built-in Intel graphics. -- My Webmaster Gig | Crunching the Midnight Oil |

 | reply to elias The Upgrade Advisor did a rather bizarre Yes No Maybe so answer on my driver list. On nearly everything, it listed it "Contact the manufacturer" and then below that it lists the same hardware again and says, for the exact same hardware, "No Action Required." Huh? -- "Don't steal. 1 edit | reply to elias Vista can run on intergrated graphics, but you won't get all the eyecandy like glass effects and the window scrolling. You will get instead the vista theme with gray bordered windows or you will have to use classic.
*edit* I ran the advisor on the same machine I had Vista installed on and this is what it tells me about graphics:
To get the Windows Aero user interface, you will need a graphics adapter that either has 128MB of dedicated Video RAM or uses shared memory. Your current graphics adapter has 64.00 MB of dedicated memory. Support for Pixel Shader 2.0 is required and your current graphics adapter does not support this. |

| reply to elias I appear to be ready for Home Premium, including Aero. However, there are apparently some driver issues with my Nvidia audio drivers and my HP Printer/scanner drivers.
The tool advises me that the "Nvidia(R) nForce(TM) Audio Codec Interface" driver is available from Microsoft Updates, but I'll be danged if I can find it. -- ~~Then the rainstorm came over me and I felt my spirit break; I had lost all of my belief you see, and realized my mistake...~~ |

 | reply to elias Don't need to run it, I already know the req and my pc well exceeds them in most areas and matches in one, but will exceed when it comes out. |

OctaveanPremium,MVM join:2001-03-31 New York, NY kudos:1 | reply to elias I just got it before they discontinued the download. Unfortunately the beta couldnt connect to the server. The beta works without it though. Everything seems to meet or exceed Premium system requirements. The only gray area seemed to be related to Media Center Edition fetures. It didnt detect my two MCE capable tuners and it didnt seem sure I could connect my video card to a TV even though the system is connected to a ViewSonic N3250W 32" 16:9 8ms HD Ready LCD TV With HDMI via a HDMI-to-DVI cable. This all may be due to the inability to connect to the server though,
Anyway, nice beta but it needs a little work
I plan to replace my DX9 video card with a DX10 video card before upgrading to Vista Ultimate or Home Premium (with Vista MCE).
Perhaps it would be useful for people to list their system specs, although the Microsoft listed specifications should be enough. |

Haven't had the oppurtunity to play with it yet, but seriously looking at it, i might stay with XP till i get to at least have a look at the new wares. The computer has the requirements, but if Linux companies start banding together, i may find me going another direction all together for OS'.
It's not a bash at OS' , just can't make a decision until i play with it. There may be a lot of choices out there in the near future, software and hardware.
Hope i didn't get too off topic there. |

Side note: The Advisor page is unavailable in IE, but works just fine in Opera. Can I get an LOL?
EDIT: I can't read, apparently. |
