| Always On for PPPoE - Windows 9x/2k/XP
First, make sure your password and username is saved so that when it automatically connects, it wont give you an error. Windows 9x 1. Double click My Computer and go into the Dial-Up Networking folder. (Windows ME users click Start > Settings > Control Panel to get into Dial-Up Networking) 2. Click Connections in the menu (top) and select Settings from the drop down menu. 3. Uncheck the first three boxes (last two if you want to see an icon in your taskbar after establishing a connection). 4. Below, check Don't promt to use Dial-Up Networking. 5. Click Ok. 6. Drag your connection out onto the desktop. 7. Browse to C:/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Start up and drag the connection you pasted to your desktop in there. 8. When you start Windows, you should automatically connect. *Note-This is for RASPPPoE and WinPoet only. EnterNet has a special feature that enables an "Always On" connection.
Windows 2k/XP 1. Right click My Network Places and select [/b]Properties[/b] from the drop-down menu. This will open a new window, Network Connections 2. Right click your connection and select Create Copy from the drop-down menu. 3. Drag the copy out onto the desktop. 4. Close the Network Connections window. 5. Drag the copy down to the Start menu and make your way up Programs, Startup and drop it in there. Note: If you can't drop it in start up or if you're having a hard time. Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and paste the copy there. 6. Make sure you have your username and password saved, and all prompts unchecked. (Right click your connection in Network Connections and select Properties. This is all in the Options tab.) 7. Now when you start up your computer, it should automatically connect everytime in less than one second. Without you even knowing it. That's a PPPoE XP Always On Connection. Note-This ONLY works with RASPPPoE. I've successfully installed RASPPPoE on my computer and it works better than XP's native PPPoE.
Make sure you have assigned your NIC an IP Address and a Subnet Mask so that your computer wont hang while booting up, browsing, and shutting down.
Have fun with it. -- um.. yeah "Welcome to the end of your life.. and I promise that it's going to hurt." |

I used to have my computer with the aforementioned settings as well. However, sometimes, when the DSL gets disconnected, my computer would not recognize that the connection had indeed been severed. Only way to solve the problem in such instances was to hard-reboot.
I opted therefore not to have my RasPPPoE as "auto-(re)connect". |

All you had to do was set it to auto-re-connect. I have mine set to redial every 3 seconds after it gets disconnected (which never happens BTW) -- um.. yeah "Welcome to the end of your life.. and I promise that it's going to hurt." |

| It's in your connections properties. Right click your connection and select Properties. Then click the options tab in the properties window. Below should be redial settings. Set this to whatever you want.
I have it set to redial 10 times every 1 second everytime the line is dropped. And I have Idle connection set to never.
This is Windows XP, it may be different on other Operating systems. -- um.. yeah "Welcome to the end of your life.. and I promise that it's going to hurt." |

Hope this helps, as it works great for me. WIN2K, RASPPPoE, Ethernet aDSL modem (Westell and Efficient 5262 work equally well) -- ..MISTAKE RECOGNIZED IS HALF CORRECTED.. |
