Maxis and Celcom HSDPA Launch?

Anyone got any idea when Maxis and Celcom are launching their HSDPA (3.5G) services?

unless tmnet ugrade its streamyx to at lease 3m++ speed,i don't think celcom dare to offer hsdpa early, because even at early start up stage, the hsdpa can reach speed 1.8m at lease, which is sure will affect celcom's 'adik''s business.

do have news that maxis and time will do a test market in the half year end.

if it reach my area, maybe i will throw my streamyx modem into tong sampah!

But go chasing after that Tong Sampah 'bus' to get back modem when you realize how bad and expensive service is...? LOL!!!

haha,Xeq,if say hsdpa use the current data price something like rm99 to 120 for 1.8m i think i will be no regret, some more i can also dump my fixe line telephone too, streamyx is the only reason i stick with it.

but is true maybe i still will chase the sampah car, because currently those xg still sometimes affect by the 'no service is available currently, please try again later' problem.

hope that they launch this year, because I wanted to upgrade to a PDA phone, and there's no point buying one with 3G only, since HSDPA will make it pretty obsolete when it's launched...

Time Telekom is testing HSDPA as well. No doubt they'll screw it up like all their other broadband projects...!

I guess Celcom was first to get their network up.No way they'll be able to offer 3.6Mbps, but if they can get close to Streamyx speeds, that'll do me

Any idea on the pricing for the service?

Press Release

Celcom launched High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) services in Malaysia. With Nokia's (NYSE:NOK) HSDPA solution, Celcom will be able to operate its network more cost-efficiently and offer its customers data services at speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps in June 2006, and this would be almost ten times faster than 3G speeds. The operator is launching three exciting 3G services, namely, "Xpax Legenda Tan Sri P. Ramlee", "Marvel Mobile" and "Disney".

"It is great to be able to support operators, such as Celcom, in bringing faster and better quality mobile services to consumers," said Bill Chang, Country Director, Malaysia, Networks, Nokia. "This deal further strengthens our ties with Celcom, and shows Nokia's commitment to bringing the most advanced mobile services to fast growing markets in Asia Pacific."

Apart from supplying to Celcom's expanded radio network, Nokia is also supplying the core network equipment to expand Celcom's current 3G network to four new regions. This effectively achieves nationwide coverage for the operator. Under the agreement, Nokia is supplying the Nokia HSDPA solution with 3.6 Mbps capability, a radio access network and transmission from its radio network portfolio. From its Unified Core Networks portfolio, Nokia is providing its MSC Server mobile softswitch, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Flexi Intelligent Service Node (ISN).

hehe, now time to serious saying things...

seens most streamyx area already adsl 2+led,so when hsdpa lunch in mass market, the adik simply need to raise the speed to 4m or ++,still can retain their custumer, even though adsl 2+ actualy can offer speed as higher as 25m ,the tactic dirty?yes!but what can we do....

about xg,i hear their already have some kind xg router just like cable n dsl,and if the hsdpa be mass market accepted, those xg isp also can offer subcard just like digi did,one of thing make me stick a little longer to streamyx is currently the xg are still not so linux friendly to set up a connection.

was at berjaya times square and gave celcom 3gx a try. they're demoing using laptops and vodafone pc cards.

overall impression was not good. ran a couple of speed tests to overseas sites and speed was approx 280kbps down and 80kbps up. frankly, that seems to be what i'd expect from regular 3g service, not HSDPA.

promoter said that launch is only in september. they don't have any pricing or packages yet. i reckon this is a half-baked launch just so that celcom can say that they launched HSDPA before Maxis

Any early users care to comment on the QOS for the HSDPA network upgrades? I notice that Maxis seems to be targeting the home market and Celcom is going for business users

I dont understand why such enthusiasm.

Ir-respective of how fast the service is going to be at the client side, sooner or later, the network provider is going to find overall bandwidth to outside world fast consumed so either they will cap the total data size per month, or traffic shaping a la streamyx-style is coming, perhaps sooner since Telekom/Celcom obviously have plenty of experience now.

Side question, curiosity, does anyone know
1. Jaring International link speed to US. many years ago I heard it was OC3, now?
2. Telekom international link speed to US?
3. Celcom link, which I presume will also go through Telekom's link??
4. any other provider that has independent international link to US?
