[POLL] Preferred Defragmentation Software - 2006?

Defragmentation defined Wikipedia

Microsoft defrag, or disk defragmenter, is a software utility designed to help chronologically order the data on the hard disk drive. The theory behind defrag is to place each program together instead of scattered throughout the hard disk drive, allowing the read-write head to access the data faster on the hard disk drive. Defrag was first available in MS-DOS 6.0 and has been available ever since.

I intentionally did not list defrag utilities that are only available as part of a suite and I may not have listed your favorite. If choosing “other” please provide a link and I will add it to the collection. This is a multiple choice poll, so feel free to check all products that you utilize. Enough said – on with the choices.

Great job on the poll, G

DK10 user here on my primary computer

I love it most for the historical reporting it does.
My others use DK Lite, including 2 boxes still on Win98 SE

Nice job on the poll grobinette.

Was once a Perfect Disk user(nice app), but after reading bits and pieces here and there (and from my own experiences), have since decided that Defragging these days is a bit overrated. (At least for me).

Windows Defrag serves my purposes just fine now, and even then I don't bother with it much unless I'm bored.

Perfect Disk.
Love its smart placement.
Just had over 2000 fragments defragged in under 5 min for 25GB on the drive.

Peter Norton's Speed disk back in the mid-80s however

Perfect Disk for quick defrags. With O+O defrag for best disk placement and startup speed (beats PD's own boot optimizing).

I've used both Diskeeper and PerfectDisk but prefer PD because of it's "Smart Placement" defragmentation method.
It's just a personal preference and I doubt there is much difference performance-wise among all the major players.

DK9 on two computers and O&O on another.

I never see them in action since they just defrag as needed.

Great poll!

•My main desktop (P4 3GHz) runs O&O v8 as a service and it's my favorite.
•Two other desktops (P3 733MHz & Celeron 1.2 GHz) on the network run Diskeeper v9 as a service.
•An older Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop (not sure of the specs) uses some version of PerfectDisk on-demand defrag.
•An ancient Sony VIAO notebook running Win98 uses VOPT-XP v7 for on-demand defrag.
