a tad better it seems.. (ftp is still near 8mbps)
and will most likely stay that way. AFAIK this only affects HTTP downloads, so FTP, IRC, BT etc.. wont benefit from this.

Works connected directly to my pc does not work through my old Netgear MR814 v1 router. Can anybody recommend a wired and wireless router that will let me achieve these speeds?

Same here. It works through my PC which is wired to my WRT54G Linksys router but not through my laptop which is wireless.

as usual i'm sure the bay area (silicon valley) will ironically be the last to get the "powerboost". if comcast doesn't extend my 29.99 promo rate for another 12 months, i am gone. 5000/600 speeds on ATT for 27.99 a month are too good to pass up...

I meant connected to my pc directly from the modem. Wired or wireless through my router it does not work.

Well, I am on the 6 meg plan (Bolingbrook, IL), and I was getting 18000k speedtests. I am running through a Linksys router.

Also, it DOES work for Bittorrent. I am now downloading a torrent at over 1,000 k/sec (I had to throttle it DOWN)!

Anyone that is getting on speed tests a very high number is either using cache or it is burst, there is no powerboost for a long time. *by end of year* and speed tests won't show it at all, only large file downloads. it's really stupid everyone is so impressed and focused on speed tests. just use the net normally and forget about stupid speed tests. they don't mean anything anyway. why? because you can get a very high speed test and crummy download speed or a low test and good speeds. I get low speed, but downloads are always maxing my comcast line.

Agreed buggs...People hop on their computer and run a hundred tests a day, and the first signs of a speed decrease they're hopping on dslreports saying how crappy comcast is and they start demanding they speak to a tier 2 tech. Amazing...

Anybody with high speed test results using vonage?
Also I'd like to see a list of good routers. I think my old trusy Netgear RT314 is UNusable.

modem to pc direct I get 12000\350 kbps modem to router I can't even load a page, though I can occasionally ping out and msn messenger works.

~edit
Just tested trhough router and with vonage disconnected for a speed result of 146/354 kbps Dang. I don't think this netgear is compatible with Comcast anymore

~~edit edit
Just tested through vonage device for a result of 5604/349 kbps and the internet is usable.

Looks like I need a router upgrade :|

You don't know how many times I have posted the same thing...

Speed tests mean nothing! They're flaky, ALL of them!

Download a BIG file from a known fast source(for me, Adobe smokes!), and see what the transfer rate is. Start two downloads and add up the speeds. This will be a WAY better benchmark of your line's ability.

(just to clarify)

I'm not using speed tests as anything other than a standard by which to test conditions. Whatever my speed actually is, the internet is
1) Very very very fast when connected modem to PC
2) unusable when connected to my router
3) about the same as it used to be before this network change when trough thevonage device.

I don't know that I'd go that far. I have yet to have the local speakeasy test provide anything significantly different than testing with large downloads from fast servers. I have the gold tier, and tests and downloads almost always come in around 8200/720 kbps. I've never gotten any hint of bursting, and no indication yet of "powerboost".

like i said, powerboost won't be happening for a long time.

First off, I'm in the S.F. Bay Area(we're ALWAYS last for any upgrade).

I have the Gold tier.
Speakeasy...
Last Result:
Download Speed: 12588 kbps (1573.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 681 kbps (85.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Flaky. I see them as high as 23xxx kbps. Once seen a burst that went off the charts at around 4MB/sec. I don't think so! I sure wish it was that fast!

When downloading large files, I see 1.04 - 1.08MB/sec. That's about right on.

I agree with you dscline. My Speakeasy test results from their Atlanta server mirrors the speed test results I get from downloading files. I get a second or two burst up to 1.6 KB that quickly settles down to 1 KB on most file downloads. Speakeasy test results have consistently been around just under 8,500 kbs down and 720 kbs up. No flakiness here.

But no 20 seconds powerburst yet for my gold tier here in Atlanta.

I'm not suggesting YOUR test results aren't flaky, I'm just saying they aren't ALL like that. Mine have always mirrored my "real" downloads, and apparently that's also the case with some others. If you run netpersec while doing the tests, you also see the rate there. Obviously, the speed tests are getting the results by transferring data... I fail to see how a test result is less accurate simply because the file transfer is automated as opposed to clicking "download" manually. Unless the argument is that the tests are flawed because the downloads used aren't large enough to average out the effects bursting. But as I said, I don't seem to have the bursting that many here report. I seem to get one or maybe two seconds of faster speed initially before it settles back down, but certainly not enough to significantly alter my results.
