I rebooted this morning here in Portland, and Powerboost has arrived. I didn't bother testing with unpredictable bandwidth sites and instead tried two things:
1) Huge SP file from MS: It didn't go south of 1MB/s until about 50 seconds had elapsed, so I don't know what the previous information about Powerboost only affecting the first 10 seconds is about. In those first 50 seconds, it slowly dropped from about 1.5MB/s down to 1, and then took another roughly 30-45 seconds after that to go down to my normal silver-tier speed (6.6Mb/s). I'm aware that there's always inflation in the opening seconds of a download, but I've never seen it this high, and certainly not for this long.
2) Also tried the local install wizard (»bvrt-cdn01.beaverton.or.bverton.···zard.exe), only 26MB, and needless to say that was incredibly fast, ranging from at least 2.5MB/s down to 1.3MB/s and finishing in about 20 seconds. Since that's on the Intranet, so to speak, it's not that meaningful, but I've downloaded it before and never saw speeds even remotely like that. |

you are not necessarily seeing powerboost as i don't have it and get the same type of *beginning burst*. I've got an 8mb that burst 4500kB/sec and down to normal 8mb and this is not powerboost. othertimes it won't burst at all, but be normal. othertimes the burst is smaller etc. |

I pay attention to these things and *never* saw that kind of behavior over the first 50 seconds before recycling the modem. Not once. Just because it's in Portland metro doesn't mean it's in Seattle yet, though we usually do get things at the same time and I expected that it was.
And if you recall from the original story (»news.com.com/Comcast+gives+broad···bp.story), this is an "as available" technology, dependent on what's being used, though for me so far it's always been available. |

I have the latest firmware for the DCM-202, which is 2.0.1. I believe this is where the problem lies. The modem info page page shows this:
DOCSIS1.0 Class of Service Parameters

The max downstream rate is listed as 8.8Mbps, even though this is supposed to be DOCSIS 2.0. It is advertised at Best Buy with this: Up to 43 Mbps download, 10.24 Mbps upload |

That took some time and head scratching even for a person very familiar with the forum software. I suspect the person with the question wouldn't guess you were responding to him/her and others would wonder why an off topic duplicate post.
I suspect you just hit topic reply, an option I really wish people would not use unless they wish to post to everyone in the topic and nobody in particular. Otherwise, it is really best to use the post reply button on the post to which you are responding. At least it would be very helpful to those of us who follow the threading of a conversation and sub-conversations.

Speed boost is in Washington state.
According the to Comcast Tech support, it has been on line since July 26th.
I reset my modem and my speeds are actually down. I reset my daughters and her speed has almost doubled according to speakeasy and a download from Microsoft.
The are sending a tech out today as my ping times have jumped in to the 500ms rang. They say that is just a coincident?
Anyway reset your modems and you should have it. |

and you believe a tech? lol. there is no powerboost in WA yet. it would be offically announced if it were here and it's not been. plus i don't have to reset my modem since I've had it unplugged many times this whole last few weeks and there is no change nor powerboost period. speed tests suck and you know it. i hate it when people think they mean something when they don't. a beginning burst is all that is happening and that's been going on for more then 1 year. it's not a powerboost thing.
for me my downloads burst to as much as 4000kB/sec at the beginning, but that's been happehning more then 1 year. it's not powerboost. mostly for me it's not bursting, but when it does it goes a bit more then my 6mb back then and now 8mb. it's no powerboost though. |

You are more than likely right about the power boost as I am not seeing it, As I said before my speeds are down.
I had 2 techs tell me it was here and if you call 1-877-824-2288 part of the menu says it is here and tells you to reset your modem to get it.
I also reset both my daughter's modems and their speeds nearly double on the speed test.
So something is going on, but what? |
