It's a noticeable difference when you look at the speeds of big downloads like SP2. |

2 edits | reply to CMCSAnews TD, what is your rated download speed? When downloading something like a MS Service Pack file, describe your rate over the first 45 seconds or so, and then describe how much more time elapses before you hit your rated speed. In my case, I stay at or above 10Mb/s for the first 50 seconds very consistently (more like 15Mb/s or higher at first before the fade), and it trickles down to my rated 6.6Mb/s after another 30 seconds or so.
In the old days (last week), if I even saw 10Mb/s at all it was for an instant, and I disregarded it as a calculation error of the browser or whatever I was using. It used to settle down to my rated speed in a couple seconds.
Edit: typo. |

| reply to Wayne99021 Remember that is only the speed test, not in actual downloading. I have gotten over 15mb in a speed test, but in downloading never more then my 6mb at the time. So speed tests to me are stupid. There is in my opinion only one speed test. Download something, not those claimed speed tests we all use. Those are ok for ceartin things, I'm not sure what though lol. |

| reply to CMCSAnews I just tried the SP2 from MS web site with 300kB/sec. It's crap. The CC installer from beaverton thingy spikes 4400kB/sec or so for a couple seconds then goes down, but the 26mb downbloads over 1200kB the whole time. To me this seems more just like a burst then this stupid new powerboost. If I am getting powerboost on that beaverton thing then it sucks in my opinion as I get that type of speed only from that link, nothing else. In newsgroups from giganews I do get 1.5mB/sec for a little bit, but only when I connect and download the first file. Then it's only 8mb normal after this. So powerboost i hear would be for every file the first 20mb or so, but with the newsgroup thing I get 1.5mB/sec or slightly less and only for the very first connection/file for a few seconds, maybe 20 or so and then it goes to normal. I've no clue if I have powerboost because obviously it's nothing special and being I don't know it must suck crap cus it's nothing I can tell. if i can't tell then it's a freaking stupid thing.
i would and will continue to say i have no powerboost and it's not available untill that day comes when i actually notice it. and if it's on now and i can't notice it right now then it's nothing. F comcast i say. i do say that anyhow for rip off and slow speeds. |

That's most definitely not a slow link. Maybe you hit it at a bad time, but I've never seen it have a bad time myself. If we're in the same boat, you'll see results just like I described, which endures beyond any kind of inflation effect. |

| Ok, not slow this time. It bursted at the vfery beginning to just like 4200 or so and then went to like 1.5mB/sec for a little bit then right away normal after that. It was at 4200kB or so only for a couple seconds though and then went to 1.5mB/sec for a tiny bit.
If this is powerboost it sucks. |

| reply to CMCSAnews This may just be a coincidence but I am finding something strange with this power boost thing. I have reset the modems and tested speeds on 4 family and friends who are on the 6 meg down tier and their speeds for most part have doubled on speakeasy and downloads from Microsoft for about the first 30 seconds or so then drops back to normal. On the other hand the 3 people with 8 meg down including myself are seeing very little speed increase under the same conditions. All are behind routers and all but one have the same modem. As I said probably just a coincident, but? |
