said by HMS1 :* It will be locked into Windows and/or some Microsoft music store.... Locked is right - it will likely ONLY be compatible with Windows - probably both XP (SP2) and Vista, but possibly ONLY Vista. I'll be shocked and surprised if is actually cross-platform compatible beyond that. -- That was preposterous! Utter Nonsense! Totally unsupportable drivel! You can't be serious!....Um, what did you say? |

I'll be shocked and surprised if is actually cross-platform compatible beyond that. Well, you can count it being Linux compatible out, obviously MS would not make it compatible with that.
And, they wouldn't really care about getting to people with Macs. Their marketshare is still very small compared to Windows. And if the people are already Apple customers, why would they chose this over the iPod?
It's not hard to figure out it would be Windows only. Though, if they want to get it into millions of hands as quickly as possible, making it Vista-only would be a bad move. |

| have it windowsCE based, since there is allready a working copy of it, just enhance the media abilities.
and in terms of locking and DRM, MS doesn't sell music to the extent apple does(ipods are locked for tunes, weak), so there would be no point in making it DRM ridden like a sony product.
personally i forsee moble internet and media capibility with tie-ins to the live system. |

MS has reacted to less market share with products like Firefox. MS also made sure to tout iPod connectivity with the Xbox360. It should be interesting to see how this plays out. |
