Posting only changes since December 2005, my last post
in this topic:

Added February '06) Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 160 GB SATA
HDD. A complete rebuild of my system on about the 2 year
anniversary of my original build. Starts developing bad
sectors and occasional SATA bridge timeouts within 10 days.

Added June 03 '06) Western Digital 74 GB 10,000 RPM Raptor
(8 MB cache model) SATA HDD. Cloned the OS partition on the
Barracuda onto it using True Image.

Removed June 03) Seagate Barracuda 160 GB is taken out
after the cloning procedure.

Today, June 10, '06) Removing Plextor PX-712A and
replacing it with Plextor PX-750A, which will burn
16x & DL media.

New Build - This Week

Pentium D 930
Arctic Cooling Freezer7 Pro CPU Cooler
Intel BOXD975XBXLKR 975X 775 Motherboard
2 Gigabytes Patriot low latency Dual channel DDR2 667 Mhz RAM
Gigabyte Geforce 7600GS 256mb Video card (passive cooling)
Enermax Liberty 500w modular power supply
250Gb Western Digital 16Mb SATA WD2500YD Hard drive (Windows XP and File storage)
160Gb Western Digital 8Mb WD1600JS Hard drive (will partition for alternative
operating systems, SuSE Linux and Windows Vista beta2)
Pioneer 16x DVD Burner
Asus 16x DVD ROM
Thermaltake Matrix aluminum case
Logitec Media Elite PS/2 Keyboard (wired)
Razer Copperhead Laser mouse (wired)

Using old Dell 17" CRT

Future upgrades: 19" DVI CRT and 500Gb Hard drive for storage and back up.

GatewayGT5012 Media Center Computer (my Wife's machine)

Pentium D 820
1Gb 533 MHz DDR2 Dual Channel memory
Intel 945GM BTX motherboard with integrated audio and video
DVD Burner
DVD ROM
Gateway 17" LCD Monitor

Recently changed howling rear 92mm case fan of death and doom for a quieter and slightly slower one from Comp USA, also mounted a small (60mm?) and quiet fan directly to huge passive BTX CPU heat sink. The machine is much quieter
now and runs cooler under load also (60 degrees C instead of 68 degrees C, still idles in the low to mid 40s)

Also added Gigabyte Radeon 1300 128Mb (passive cooling) graphics card

Case: Thermaltake Tsunami
PSU: CoolerMaster 600W
Motherboard: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
CPU: AMD 64 X2 4800+
HSF: Stock with CPU
Memory: 2GB Corsair PC-3200 Platinum
Video: PNY nVidia GeForce 7600 GT (256MB RAM)
Audio/LAN: On motherboard.
CD/DVD: Sony DRU-710 (revived from an earlier life)
HDD: WD 7200RPM 80 GB EIDE

Anticipated changes:
will be adding some larger SATA drives, looking into maybe a couple of 500GB units and make this the central backup for the other 5 systems in the house. May move this over in place of my first AMD 3200+ system and hook up some stuff on it to this one: Laser Printer, Scanner/Copier/Printer, Klipsch speakers.

OS: For the moment I'm going to try out Windows MCE since I've never seen it on a machine yet - everything else is on XP Pro.

Primary use - who knows? But it'll be running UD turning out work units for that project until I think of something else to really do with it.
