[Info] Visiting Nashville - what to do?

Hey, we are going to be staying in Nashville for a couple of days. Any recommendations for fun activities for my wife and me and our 2 teenagers?

Thanks,
Mark

Only been there a couple of times, but even if not staying there, the Grand Old Opera Hotel was a nice place to visit. Had 3-4 restaurants, skylight, and almost like visiting an indoor garden center-lots and lots of plants.

We went to the Grand Old Opera and REALLY enjoyed it. »www.nashvillesightseeing.com/tou···vtac=PPC

An alternate possibility is Chattanooga - Ruby Falls, Rock City, the Aquarium, etc. Any opinions on that?

The Parthenon is pretty cool in Nashville. Personally I like Chattanooga better. The Chattanooga aquarium is one of the best I have ever been to.

We're thinking one day in Nashville, 2 in Chattanooga, for the Aquarium, Ruby Falls, etc.

That sounds like a plan. I grew up in east TN. I don't remember a lot of family things to do in Nashville. Normally just went there for school functions as a kid then later on just for concerts and football games in college. Chattanooga has a lot more family things to do that are fun. You used to be able to buy passes for all the attractions at discount price. The imax is near the aquarium which is pretty cool. There is a descent brewery near there also.

A few possible places to look at-

1. Nashville Sounds minor league baseball.

2. Opry Mills Mall. A decent sized mall that has a Bass Pro Shops located in it.

3. Grand Ole Opry.

4. Ryman Auditorium.

5. The Hermitage. The homeplace of Andrew Jackson.

6. The Country Music Hall of Fame.

7. General Jackson Cruise.

8. Nashville Shores.

9. The Parthenon.

10. Nashville Zoo

There are all kinds of attractions in Nashville and the surrounding areas. I really enjoyed the area when I lived near there and will probably move back sometime in the next couple of years. If there is something specific you are looking for just let me know.

If I go to school in Nashville, I would like to know where to eat.

Several of my family's favorite places to eat at:

I am not sure about this place now as it has been several years since I have been there but we always enjoyed the Florida Seafood Kitchen.
»nashville.citysearch.com/profile/9332512
It didn't look like much from the outside but it was a great place to eat.

Another one of our favorite places was Demos. We usually ate at the one in Murfreesboro because it was closer to where we used to live but the one in Nashville is great to.

Our favorite burger joint was Fat Mo's-

Finding places to eat near any of the schools shouldn't be a problem. There is no shortage of places to eat at in Nashville. A lot would depend on budget, what school, type of food, etc. Asking some of you're classmates at whatever campus you will be attending will probably yield you with tons of places to go. The ones I listed above are just a few of my family's favorite places to eat at while we would be out and about on the weekends and would be in the affordable price range.

I hope this was of some help.

Update: We are in Jackson, TN, will attend a wedding this afternoon.

Tomorrow morning we are going to Nashville, and will stay at the Opryland Hotel tomorrow night.

Monday we are going to Chattanooga for 2 days, staying at the Chattanoogan.

They grow a lot of corn in Tennessee.

Congrats to the lucky couple that is getting married. May they have a happy and prosperous marriage.

Hopefully you will enjoy you're stay at the Opryland hotel. The wife and I really enjoyed it the one time that we stayed there. The best time to see it is around Christmas...they truly know how to decorate for the holidays. It is a site to behold.

Chattanooga should be a lot of fun. The Aquarium was a good visit as well as some of the other attractions close by.

A good link to have for Tennessee road conditions can be found here-
»www.tdot.state.tn.us/
It seems there is always a stretch of road with construction going on so you may want to check before hand just to know what to expect.

Have a safe trip!

The Peabody Hotel is a nice place to see. Make sure to go when they are having the duck walk (if they still do that). Have a drink, buy a t-shirt.
