As most of you know, the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) distributed computing platform has grown exponentially. Many distributing computing projects are being released exclusively for the BOINC platform, and the trend seems likely to continue to grow.
Team Helix is pleased to welcome the addition of the BOINC Rosetta@Home project and its members. Helix is presented with an excellent opportunity to grow into and with the BOINC platform by adopting an already established project with a significant base of interest.
»boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/team_···eamid=21
Rosetta@Home is a protein structure prediction project that runs on the BOINC platform. Rosetta@Home is not a duplication of the Folding@Home effort, but may someday greatly compliment Folding@Home.
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta%40home
The Rosetta@Home project offers an alternative to folks who would like to be involved with Team Helix, but choose to run on the BOINC platform. It also allows current FAH contributors another project to branch out to, and the BOINC platform may handle some older machines that will no longer handle the larger demands of the timed Folding@Home units.
The particulars of the project are explained here:

| In due time, I suspect that will happen. I don't see the urgency at this point, however. Those of you dedicated to the project seem to be getting the job done in good order, no matter who announces what and when.
Keep up the good work and please be patient with your DCS reps. There really is a lot more to all this than meets the eye. We're well meaning folks, trying to do the best job we can for all of you. We do have real life calls on us, however, which may explain why we don't move along as fast as you might like sometimes. -- Team Helix May 2006 Roll Call - Team Helix Forum - My Folding@Home Farm - Join Us? |

I signed on to Rosetta with one of my existing BOINC blades.

I've been a SETI cruncher for very near 7 years, and am proud to also be crunching for the Rosetta project. |

1 edit | Welcome, jons! Great crunching there.
Edit: Missed parkut, how could I do that? Always a good guy to have around on any team, any project. |

| reply to sortofageek Hi. If anyone has any questions about running Rosetta@home on BOINC, feel free to ask. It's a little bit different from running Foldng@home, and most of your preferences for the project are set online rather that in the application.
It's nice to be running a project with Team Helix again, and even nicer to have Rosetta@home officially sanctioned by BroadbandReports.com. -- Join BroadbandReports.com's SETI@Home Team Don't let your computer's idle time go to waste! |

| reply to sortofageek Looking forward to doing some crunching here on R@H too.
So many worthy projects. Glad to see this one picked up by TH.
Though I can see already I'm gonna have to abscond with a few more blades. |

| reply to sortofageek Rosetta@Home is a good project. I ran it for 6 months before deciding to settle back with FAH [Ive been in a number of BOINC projects over the past few years and Rosetta is my personal favorite]. I wont sing the benefits of one over the other or any of that. If you are interested, check out their website and read up on the science behind Rosetta and if it interests you, grab a copy of BOINC, register with Rosetta, and get to work.

| reply to sortofageek Looks like I'm another one that got "yanked" into Team Helix.
I've been crunching E@H since it was started, but when it got "Berked" on 5/30/06 I started looking for other BOINC projects and signed up for LHC and Rosetta. Rosetta is lowest priority of the 3 because my primary interest is in the physics projects. However, I was an early SETI, G@H, and F@H cruncher, so I've kind of moved around as the DC projects have gotten more into my fields of interest. (I have a BS in Physics, class of '64.) I've been "doing computers" for 44 years, however. -- "The Kinkster" for Governor! If you live in Texas, you know who he is. If you don't, then you can't vote for him anyway. |

| reply to m00kie I was just clicking through the Rosetta@Home site and notice the team rankings for that project. Interesting ... you guys, Team 21(?), seem to be in 82nd place for total credits, but in 42nd place for recent average credits.
Does that mean the participation for the team is picking up or does that vary a lot because people switch between projects a lot? -- Team Helix May 2006 Roll Call - Team Helix Forum - My Folding@Home Farm - Join Us? |
