| [Kerio 4.x] Blocking site's access by way of Google?
I have recently installed the trial of Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall 4 and am still trying to figure out how it helps and hinders me.
Sometimes when trying to access a site by clicking on a link in a Google search result, all I get is "Ad blocked here by KPF" and an otherwise blank page. If I type the appropriate information in the IE address bar, I can access the site ... but not by way of Google.
Example:
Advanced Google search return using "1999 malibu ls site:chevrolet.com" shows listings that include a link to "www.chevrolet.com/malibu" which returns the Ad Blocked information and nothing else. The IE address bar will display:
If I manually type www.chevrolet.com/malibu in the IE address bar, I can access the page.
What aspect of Kerio is preventing me from accessing the page by way of the Google search results? And ... how do I work around it, other than manually entering the address myself? |

| Trying disabling the web module. If you are now able to access these links then look in your web log for items that are being blocked/denyed. You should then be able to add these url's as exceptions.

| Thank you ... that helped isolate the issue on that site and I am able to apply it to pages I'm having trouble accessing through other sites as well.
I tried using the wildcard character (*.aaa.com) on the AAA site to get the TripTik tool to load, to catch ww1.aaa.com, ww2.aaa.com, itt02.aaa.com itt03.aaa.com and it04.aaa.com. Unfortunately, in the last step of the process, it hangs up on the itt02.aaa.com and other variations. If I disable the Kerio web filtering, it works fine. How do I get it to work without totally disabling all web filtering?

| reply to katarina You will need to have the web module enabled to apply any exceptions. Unfortunately, I'm using the free version so I can't test this module . Only blocked/denied items will appear within the log, everything else (including exceptions) will not be logged. Check your logs from top to bottom making sure that you have created the correct exceptions as you test your web pages.

| I think I had the URLs listed properly in the Exceptions list, but I found a blocked web log entry where the value for one of the URLs I entered in that list was:
local: ".*/banner\.*"
I had to go to the Ad Blocking tab / Advertisements / Set ... and uncheck one of the listed ad servers:
.*/banner\.*
So ... now the TripTik works without having to disable the entire Web Filtering Module, or disabling all Advertising filtering. But ... that means that any other times that this particular ad server enters the picture, it won't be blocked. |
