6Mbps is enough

For most users right now, 6Mbps is overkill for web browsing, gaming, etc... I am sorry but companies aren't out to please the minority.

6mbps for internet use is enough....I have the 6meg package and am thinking about downgrading to 3 megs..I dont use more then 3 really...Yea its nice to have to download a large file or something but I dont do that enough to justify. I would like a faster upload, say a 6meg down and 2 meg up...that would be sweet....

It's not about right now. Not only is not even available right now, but when you're upgrading your network, you should be at least a little bit future sighted. Right now 6mbps is definitely plenty. In 5 years 6mbps will be the new 64k of RAM.

Hey, maybe the entire rest of the industry is wrong and AT&T is right.. that's how it's happened in the past right? ... oh .. hrmm.

No, that's not crazy - at least not outside of US.

So you are saying that companies ARE out to please the minority of customers. I think they are out to maximize profits. If a minority of users want 30MBps and the ROI for implementing is low, it will not happen.

I am sure at&t has done some analysis to see what people use for most mailing, etc. For most people I know, myself included, it is difficult to tell the difference between 3M and 6M when viewing sites like dslreports or others and downloading email. Then again, we aren't viewing much streaming videos, sending huge email attachments, or continuously downloading large files in general. I have 6MBps currently and many sites cannot saturate the connection.

In my case, our connection only gets saturated when multiple users try and do many things (ie: wife watching small streaming video while I download patch and surf web at same time). We have 6 PCs at home and I have never noticed a slowdown when all are in use for normal browsing and game playing.

That might not be as crazy as you think guys. I get roughly about 1 a week that wants to downgrade.

I liked the last one that I answered recently:

From topic in direct:

"I know this is bad of me and I really like the speed, I just would rather save money on my bill than have a faster speed I just don't have a use for. It's not a hit on you guys and the speed is reliable and fantastic. I just don't have a use for it."

I see it about 1 a week, is it a bad thing? probably not, it just depends on what them people want to do with internet. My mother is another prime example, she would rather have a lower price than a faster connection. NewMariner See Profile is thinking the same thing they are. Crazy? maybe- saving a penny- not so crazy.

6 Mbps is overkill for most users. I doubt you deal with "most" users as I do on a daily basis. Our company isn't going to do mass upgrades unless someone is there to write the check for it. I think maybe you misread my post altogether.

I never heard of anyone wanting to downgrade just they think it is too fast for them
It is silly
You know how many would drool over faster connection at under 30 bucks due to advertisement of course
I want to save money? lol
well for one we're talking pennies here
it's not much saving is their???
especially when att/sbc is trying to make as much as possible so it in turn bad for business

What you do not understand is that this won't be just for internet but also IPTV and a replacement for POTS lines.

TV channels, especially HDTV, take up a TON of bandwidth.

While 6Mbps may be good enough for internet alone, it will take a lot more for the other things people want.
