| high line attenuation and low SNR margin
Hi, i wish to inquire about my line quality i am using aztech dsl600EU streamyx package 512/256 kbps and here is the modem status
Modem Status Link Status Connected Us Rate (Kbps) 1024 Ds Rate (Kbps) 3072 US Margin 8 DS Margin 11 Modulation MMODE LOS Errors 0 DS Line Attenuation 45 US Line Attenuation 52 Path Mode Fast Path
DSL Statistics Near End F4 Loop Back Count 0 Near End F5 Loop Back Count 0
as u can see, the line attenuation is very high, can anything be done about that? and how can i increase my SNR margin because the line disconnects quite frequently after 12 pm your help would be appreciated , thank you |

| reply to smallcat but when my download is at full speed, it runs at max 60KBps which is what i subscribed for when i first used streamyx, i checked the modem status and it shows my speed as 512/256 when my first modem got damaged, i bought another one and having not checked the speed for a long time, i found out that it was 3 mbps could this be the modem problem? how come the speed changed all of a sudden? |

| The actual download speed you get is set by a software ratelimiter in the TMNet router. It is unaffected by your actual modem speed so long as the modem speed is greater. Many 512k subscribers actually connect at 1024. Higher speeds require more line bandwidth, which leads to higher line attenuation. Ask Streamyx to reduce your line setting to 1024. |

so after a few days i called tmnet and the above is what i saw... is it normal? i am using a 512/256 package.. i saw that the SNR margin increased quite a lot |

Here's my stat. I'm a 512K (D) and 384K (U)user. Does this rating too high or low ?
Thanks. |

| It looks pretty ok to me.I can tell that your line is directly connected to the exchange, right? The attenuation rate is higher than those who are connected to remote DSLAMs but you need not worry about that because attenuation is often higher for traditional POTS.
Unless you just live a few hundred metres away from the exchange or the DSLAM is just located at the basement of your apartment block, it is normal for most landed property owners to have these kind of stats. |

| killercode : Your SNR looks OK. By the way, just curious.. are you subscribing to the 1.0M Enterprise/Corporate package because they gave 1.5Mbps downstream speed on your line or did they just cap the speed wrongly ?
Anyway, if you aren't getting frequent disconnection or slow connection problems, you can just leave the speed as it is. If you did get TMnet to lower down your downstream speed to 1024 Kbps, then your SNR might go higher. |

| kiokyau... 2 weeks already i had no problem disconnect or slow connect.
I'm home user. Last 3 weeks ago i got crazy when streamyx lunch 2Mbps for home user. I called 1300 to ask about this new package then they told me that 2Mbps package had been lunch already at major city in Malaysia.
I call TMPOINT Kuantan about this new package but they told me TMNET never had that package. Then i told that person please look at new TMNET website. Sundenly she shock that Streamyx had lunch 2Mbps for home user. Then she look at inside the system (computer) she find that the new package is there. She promise to call me about this new package. 2 day later the woman at TMPOINT call me then she told me i cannot subsribe 2Mbps package becoz it for new COSTUMER only. There is no option in the system for upgrade package. >> what the #$$$#
So i call streamyx technician at technical side to confrom about new package. They said for technical side they had no problem to change my port to 2Mbps but new package need to refer approve from TMPOINT. >>>> aiya need call or go to TMPOINT again aa??
I told that guy TMPOINT said need refer to technical side then technical side said please refer to TMPOINT to confrom 2Mbps package. Majority low level department didn't know about 2Mpbs package for home user. Then i call the person whois install streamyx ask about this new package. He ask for 2 days.
I call back the he said i cannot use 2Mbps coz my phone cable (copper) 26 years old! If i want he can set my streamyx 2Mbps but i will have intermited connection (lag). So he cannot do anything. All this happend almost 1 month 1 week after TMNET lunch 2Mbps for home user.
Then i remember i had came seminar about "Important Broadband" at TMNET CLICKERS Kuantan (TMPOINT Now). I look at the letter slowly..I saw somebody phone number with the title "PENOLONG PENGURUS TMNET SBN. BHD. PAHANG". I call that number ask for help. In 24 hours she promise that will inform me about my problem to get 2Mbps package for home user.My major problem is phone cable is to old. Then i force i still want to upgrade to 2Mbps. She tried. In 2 hours after last i call her (i fall asleep) some one call me from Teruntum Exchange in Kuantan told me that he Upgrade freely my port to 1.5Mbps.
He told me if i had a probleam with 1.5Mbps port that he change just make a call. I'm still waiting for TELEKOM to change copper cable with 26 years old age to fiber optic.
My be i use this magic words "I had receive an award THE MOST LOYAL COSTUMER IN PAHANG". Coz i'm first 10 person in Kuantan who subsribe streamyx in Kuantan.
Ok kiokyau that is my history how i get 1.5Mbps download and 512kbps upload. With the offical request i guest..... |

| killercode : Thanks for the infos your provided. Actually the 2Mbps package is also not widely available here in KL yet. Only some places can subscribe to that package. Those places that have very old copper lines or very far away from exchange usually won't get to apply for it.
Regarding waiting for TM to change your copper line to fibre optic, I think it's very slim chance. Imagine how much they have to spend on doing that !
Anyway, everyone's complaining the Internet is so slow now and etc.. so if you pay RM188 for the 2Mbps line also is a waste of money. I think it's best you stick with your current 1Mbps. |
