| [ViaTalk] Can It Do This....
Ok we already know about these features, so lets skip them after this...
ViaTalk Can... Part the sea. Walk On Water. Turn Blood To Wine. Raise The Dead.
I need to know can Viatalk... Is Viatalk's BYOD SIP or IAX Friendly, or both? Can you do BYOD with the rumored pending sale? Is using Viatalk for a Home Office specifically against the TOS? If not specifically, not recommended? Ok I am REALLY streching here, Can ViaTalk port a Level3 number from Callwave.com in Omaha (402-216-XXXX)? What is ViaTalk's plan if the USF gets applied to VOIP and we have already pre-paid for 2 years? It's really hot and humid and I had a bad day at work, Can ViaTalk mow my lawn?
Thanks! |

| I don't know the answers to all of them, but I would think Brendan certainly can, or put in a ticket and they can let you know (I had a response to a ticket today in 15 minutes, so support is back on track for sure)
As far as I know, BYOD is only SIP. Not sure why you can't do BYOD with the sale...costs them less. As long as you're not using the phone 40 hours a week or something ridiculous like that, they don't look at your usage so you should be fine for a home business...although voip for any sort of business would make me nervous. Not sure about porting...depends on callwave. I don't believe they can charge you for the USF once you lock in to the 2 year price, I imagine they have a plan to make up for that when the time comes though. Aren't the neighbor kids good for cutting the grass? |

| I have the Sunrocket 2 year deal (April Fool) and have been wondering about USF. Depending on that ruling that could really add up.
The Sunrocket TOS will allow for Home Office use, I just was not too sure how liberal VT would be.
I already have a exgn account with an 800# on it I just wanted the "Local" number moved from callwave so I can use it with my auto attendant on my * box. I have a great easy to remember callwave number I want to keep! |

There was a thread recently where a caller used up over 40 hrs. in a month and lost his VT account. 40 hrs. is not that much, IMO, especially if you have someone homebound (i.e. with an infant or on Doc-ordered bed rest.)
As for the USF ruling: Going with history, SR is probably going to just "swallow" any extra monies they would have to pay for the USF, especially if you are already on a 2 yr. plan. I am not sure what other company may be as liberal with the extra charge, most will just add it on top. VT may perhaps not, if you are on their 2 yr. deal, as they seem interested in competing in the low price range. |

I'm sure the reference to that thread will pop up again in the future, you can bet on it,and none of the facts will be there either.
By the way, just looked at the new office pictures, and that's a nice little yellow car you got there |

1 edit | reply to georgepan Ok I mowed the lawn myself, I called Bryan Martin @8x8 and he said, "Who are you?" so I assumed he would not be mowing my lawn either. Luckily it had cooled down a little out there. Then again my entire lot is only 57x100 and my 2700sqft house sits on it so you can imagine how much grass I do not have.
Well I would be lucky to hit 4 hours a month let alone 40.
I just added my entire month of SR up and combined it came to 3hr 42min so I think I am safe. I'm just tired of calling people from my home phone (Since I can't call from a signature number)
I guess I will shake hands with danger here and give it a shot! I can't justify all that money for a Business plan I will not use that many minutes on AND not get a white page listing to boot.
I hopefully will not be one of those people who come back "ViaTalk Cut Me Off!" then again I have given enough info about myself to get my order flagged anyway
Edit: On Another note A nice way for viatalk to really hit with a bang would have been to be tonight's Woot!
I was thinking, I will be up at Midnight anyway for Woot! so I will order then (If the sale is already on) |

1 edit | Just FYI, in another thread tonight Mike indicates that it doesn't appear that the BYOD is included in the 2 year promotion. Your mileage may vary.
EDIT: Brendan says that will be fixed in the morning.
And those Dick Tracy watches (Woot) do look a bit geeky cool.

1 edit | reply to georgepan Correct me if I'm wrong but I did a search and as far as I could tell the user never used anything close to 40 hours a week. He only used 1500 a month, and seemed to be bashed around a bit because he complained here. In the end it was an error on the part of viatalk - they accidentaly flagged him. Over the course of the thread VTBrendan admitted that his company had trouble with people who used 40 hours a week - the equivalent of a full time job. This user never reached that much.
Is that the thread in question? -- "So this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause." |

Look at SR's TOS, they have the same thing built in.
Also, you say what other company MAY be so liberal. You speak like it is fact. It's not, we are all speculating right now...

| Although I wonder what would happen in the case of a person who had teenagers around. It wouldn't be suprising if they could pull off 5 hours/day - though I assume they would be mainly local calls.
What would happen in that case? -- "So this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause." |

| reply to The Beer My guess it would be handled on a case by case basis. I know I used a Vonage residential line when I worked remotely for almost a year, 3-4+ hrs a day and never heard a peep from them. Sometimes I would have upwards of 120+ outgoing dials a day... -- Have you been touched by his noodly appendage? »www.venganza.org/index.htm |

| With Vonage I would understand them not causing a big fuss because they charge you more, but for a provider who has lower rates this may cause some serious problems. It'd be good to know what their policy on this would be.
I'd just hate to see someone getting into trouble because of something their kids did Kinda like those people who got sued b/c their kids were uploading too many songs. -- "So this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause." |
