| Step by Step How to with Partition/Boot Magic
This is a step by step how to dual boot with Partition Magic. First off it is important to READ THE PARTITION MAGIC manual. Make sure you make all of the floppies for Partition Magic and Boot Magic. If something goes wrong, then that is the only thing that can save you. The links above give you step by step instructions on what to do.
Ok I am dual booting Windows ME and Windows XP. I followed this link. First off if you install Boot Magic first you must disable it before you apply changes. You can not install Boot Magic on a NTFS partition I installed Boot Magic first and disabled it. I must stress out to make the floppy. I will be using it to go back into Windows ME and enabling Boot Magic. The partition that you want to install your other OS on, you have to convert it to a Primary partition, right click convert>Primary(refer to PM Convert). After you convert your partition to a Primary you need to set it active by right clicking on the partition that you made a Primary go to advance>set active.(refer to PM Set Active, PM Set Active 1). Click on OK. When you are done with that, you will see that the partition that your OS is on-in my case Windows ME- will be hidden and the partition that you made active will now be a new "C" drive.(refer to PM Apply Changes). When everything looks right then click on Apply Changes. Let Partition Magic do it's thing and reboot with your OS CD. OK when you are in the installation part of the OS you are installing you will see that the partition containing your other OS-in my case Windows ME- that it will say "Inactive (OS/2 Boot Manager)" and the drive that you made a Primary and Set Active is your new "C" drive (refer to Second OS Install). Install your OS on the "C" drive. Reboot and you are done. Now to get Boot Magic to work you can either install it on the OS you just installed or like what I did install it on my previous OS. If you install it on your previous OS then use the Boot Magic floppy that you created and boot back into your previous OS. Next go to Boot Magic Configuration and it will see both OS's (refer to Boot Magic). There you can select how long Boot Magic menu will stay on and also your default OS. If you install it on your second OS then it will see both of your OS's on there. Next reboot and you will see Boot Magic come up with both of your OS's (refer to Boot Magic Menu). Well that is about it. Good Luck and Have Fun:) -- What! What! What Do You Want!?!?!?! Leave My Ass Alone:) |

Thanks for the info, Nameless. That will really help me this weekend. One question though - your screenshots show Partition Magic v6.0. I thought you had to have 7.0 for it to be compatible with XP? -- Join DSL Reports in fighting CANCER. Use your spare CPU cycles to find a cure. Check out Team Discovery! |

| Yes RClarkofNC PM 7 is the only one compatible with Windows XP. I installed PM6 on WinME. I don't have a need to install PM on XP when I already have it in WinME. If I only had XP then I would have to install PM7.:) -- What! What! What Do You Want!?!?!?! Leave My Ass Alone:) |
