Layering and Blending in PSP/Corel

Am sure there are lots of other tutorials out there, but I wanted to post this one here so people can play and ask questions. A lot of this would also be relevant to other graphic programs.

Open any picture in PSP or Corel. Go to layer and click duplicate layer. That gives you two layers to work with.

.Notice the copy of the background is highlighted, that is the layer you will be working with. Try clicking the eye of both, that will hide the layer and you will be unable to work with any that are hidden. While the copy of background is highlighted, go to effects and click art Media effects.

Play with brushes, the color, the angle until you get something you like.

You can now adjust the opacity of your working layer and "blend" both layers. Or you can click the eye, turn off the original layer and just use the layer you worked on to save.

If you decide to blend the layers, you can now merge them into one picture. Click layers and merge.

I usually just merge visible out of habit from working with transparent gifs but on a jpg you could also just merge all. Any questions? Want to give it a try?
