Mine ain't too shabby either That's looking towards Ukiah (8 miles south), in the middle there (you can kinda see a ledge through the trees) is Forsythe Creek, one of the headwaters of the Russian River, both forks start very near to my house, as does one fork of the Eel River. |

4 edits | Grass and weeds, it goes a golden to brown color here in the summer and fall, hence the name for California "The Golden State". We get little to no rain here in Mendocino County from sometime in June (except for some thunderstorms, mostly in the mountain areas) to October, the grass just naturally dies out. Our rainy and snowy season lasts from around October until the end of April, normally, we have very distinct wet and dry seasons out here in the west, and we irrigate a lot, somthing not done much in the east. If I had taken that photo in say, Jan, it would be solid green. I'm not the best photographer either, I probably got the sun in the shot and it kinda fades some of the colors, the trees, orchards and vineyards here turn bright and beautiful colors in the fall, that photo doesn't do them justice.
Of course, at the coast, in the Redwoods and in the higher mountains it stays green year round. I'm glad it's this way though, our humidity inland stays low during the day in the summer, but goes up at night with the cooler temps, the wine grapes love it here because it keeps their sugars in check. I couldn't take your guys's humidity in the summer, I experienced it in DC and Baton Rouge, that's enough lol

This is a typical winter and spring scene here, though we do get snow down in the valleys at times (Redwood Valley sits at 800 feet), and the local mountains (which you can see in the background, snow covered) of course get a lot of snow. Speaking of snow, the snowiest place in the US in here in California, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, they average over 50 feet a season!
