I just had a Comcast technician drop by to fix my cable modem not working with a splitter on the line (SB5105) the problem ended up being there were already three individual splitters in the panel in the wall that is for all the rooms in the house, well long story short now there is only one 3-way splitter in the panel
My download speed has increased from about 8.0* to 8.2mbps, i'm not sure if this is going to be constant from now on but that's what it was right after the technician left. My SNR is 38.7 dB as of posting this and the downstream power level is 0.5 dBmV. I checked the signals when the guy was here though, and he said the upstream power was too high at 55.0 dBmV (which it is still at right now). I did an upload speed test also and the speed is identical to before, which is fine at about 740kbps or 91kB/sec and that's enough for me, more would of course be better but I'm not going to fuss over it. Anyway, the question is, how does the signal look to you? could they be better? beause the guy said if I keep having problems (which I doubt since signal is much better than it had been for months) they can install an amp to make it better.

| 55 upstream is borderline. That signal doesn't make your upload speed faster, but it has to do with the synch of your modem. 55 is a reading that I personally would like to see lowered. I don't like anything above 51, but I've seen modems work fine with upstream as high as 58.
If you do have problems, the amp will add downstream signal and pull your upstream down within spec.
Basically, just wait and see what happens. |
