Just goes to show you, democracy dosen't work ....
All the more reason why I'm rooting for Verizon to make more StateWide Franchise agreements and put a dent into cable... I notice that the Cablevision fee in NJ hasn't risen in a while, either...co-incidence? Whatever happened to all that 'rising production costs' crap they've been telling us?

| great idea...especially now w/ elections in Nov. I'm sure Gov Ehrlich would love to hear our concerns and even better yet get this bug in the ear of Martin O'Malley, Baltimore's mayor and who is running against Ehrlich. All of us who wants VZ FIOS TV for ALL of MD should write to both these men.

| Re: Verizon Goes to Court to bring FIOS TV to Mont County MD I recently got FiOS in Potomac, MD on 6/23/06. One of the guys installing my service said he was one of the people who went up to the montgomery county board to allow FiOS TV. He was a pretty nice guy. I don't remember his name but he was tall and black. That's all I can remember about him. All I want is a very basic TV plan for ~$15. I hope VZ offers a plan like this or I'm not getting it. VZ competes with Comcast here, so they should provide a competing plan for every one of Comcast's plans. I believe Comcast's cheapest offering is $12 or $15 a month witt no cable reciever of any sort. | |

Frankly, I wouldn't expect either of these packages to last too long though. They're the only packages that remain under price regulation, and price regulation goes away when there is effective competition. I doubt very much either Comcast or Verizon will continue to offer this package if they don't have to. In fact, in the few markets where Comcast has effective competition I don't think there is a limited basic analog package.

1 edit | Re: Verizon Goes to Court to bring FIOS TV to Mont County MD Well one can hope they still keep it once they bring FiOS TV to Montgomery County(if they ever do; goddamn Comcrap).
Basic -Includes 15-35 local broadcast and public, education and government channels for $12.95 per month. The customer chooses digital or analog service. The digital service, which requires a set-top box, offers access to pay-per-view programming and the video- on-demand library. Customers who choose the analog service will receive only the local channel line-up.
Does this mean that if I get analog service, then I can't get basic cable channels like TBS and FX?

| Re: Verizon Goes to Court to bring FIOS TV to Mont County MD said by JTRockville :btw - I think our public channels are always looking for fresh content. Maybe you could produce your own XXX show for all of us to watch. Which category would that fall in, P, E, or G? | |

If viewing porn is specifically permitted in our public libraries, why not broadcast it over the public airwaves? If Barney is willing of course.
Even without Barney's bad ass channel, our other PEG content makes the package worthwhile.

| Can you imagine Comcast or Verizon offering a package at well below the usual ~40-50% profit margin (at least that's Comcast's profit margin, not sure about VZ)?
Keep in mind, the networks built by Comcast and Verizon are private networks. Their purpose is to generate profit - as much as possible. If either company does offer this package once the regulation is lifted, I'd look for the price to be almost double what it is currently.

Good on Verizon's part to take them to court.
I would really hope that Verizon would try to get a statewide franchise for Maryland which would knock Comcast out of the water.
