[Poll]Preferred Web (Internet) Browser - 2006 Members Choice

Wikipedia defines the web browser as "a software application that enables a user to display and interact with text, images, and other information typically located on a web page at a website on the World Wide Web or a local area network. Text and images on a web page can contain hyperlinks to other web pages at the same or different websites. Web browsers allow a user to quickly and easily access information provided on many web pages at many websites by traversing these links. Web browsers are the most commonly used type of HTTP user agent. Although browsers are typically used to access the World Wide Web, they can also be used to access information provided by web servers in private networks or content in file systems."

These days, browsers support standards based HTTP, HTTPS, HTML and XHTML, CSS, etc., to display the site the same across all platforms. Browsers can come with extra tools and/or features built in or offer third party plug-ins and extensions to make the online experience more customized and enjoyable. They can also be a browser "shell", which uses an existing engine but provides a more customizable interface.

Notes!
•This is a single choice poll. Although many people enjoy variety we only want to know which one is your primary browser.•We've tried to list as many choices as possible but inevitably we'll miss yours. If that has happened then please choose Other and post the application to the thread along with a link.•The poll does not delineate between versions (e.g. MSIE6 or 7). Please feel free to clarify your favorite and explain why.
Will the DSLR class favorite continue to be the top vote getter or will there be a dark horse winner this year? Cast your vote now and let us know!

For the record -- I voted Microsoft Internet Explorer. I use IE7 -- although still in beta, I find this latest offering from MSFT to be easy to use, the tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker, integrated RSS aggregator and anti-phishing tools to be an excellent improvement over past offerings. Since using this browser, I've removed all other browser applications from my systems and now recommend IE7 to friends and clients.

Opera

I need a browser that has the speed I need, the security I need, all the features I need, and it has to be customizable to the users consent.

Opera gives me everything all packed into one small 4MB package: fastest, safest, most feature-rich, and most customizable browser on earth.

... Opera 9 is my default, preferred broswer - but I also use Firefox 1.5.0.4 frequently, and Mozilla 1.7.12 rarely ... that 'other' browser just sits there ...

... good job on the poll, MSeng ...

I use Firefox most of the time but Opera would have to be a close second for me.

Another Opera lover here.

I once used Firefox (and still do along with IE once in a while), but when I tried Opera and saw the amazing number of built in features (Some of which are finally being employed in IE7...long over due), I was hooked.

I love the RSS reader in Opera among the many other features.

Some people don't care about Tabbed browsing, but for me it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

FF got me going on Tabbed Browsing, and it was the lack of it in IE that made it impossible for me use it much anymore....I plan to install IE7, but I'm waiting for the final release (If that day ever comes).

One thing I've found (although I'm sure it's probably true of most Browsers), is that you really have to try Opera for more than a day or two before you decide it's not for you.

At the time, I also felt Opera was a lot more 'polished' than FF which seemed to me to have far too many problems early on. (I do think FF is much better now than it once was though).

Opera is FAR more customizable than some people think, and it took me several weeks before I found out just how many cool ways there were to 'tweak' it to my liking

Heck, I'm still finding something now and then I didn't know existed....this is a great Browser (IMHO of course), that will only get better and better.

Oh, and thanks for the excellent Poll MSeng See Profile !

Firefox, even though it regularly crashes once a week. I just tripled my amount of RAM. Hopefully that will help.

I'm torn.. I don't trust Microsoft because for sooo many years they let IE go to hell untill Firefox showed everyone the true path .. Now, with IE 7 Beta 3 I actually am finding I like it better than Firefox but I don't trust them...

I voted for Firefox
