| [General] Unlocked vonage PAP2 with SPA1001 firmware Note:
I'm sure that most people know this, I think I even did, but I must have forgotten and it drove me crazy for about 3 hours.
We all know that if you unlock the vonage PAP2 and take it to the Sipura SPA1001 firmware, you don't have to worry about factory resets. We also know that instead of 2 separate ports, both lines are on the same port and you can go from line 1 to line 2 by pressing the # key. Well, here's the part I either forgot or didn't know.
I routinely will disable line 2 in the PAP2 if I want to use that account on a different adapter for testing purposes. (Don't want the confusion of 2 adapters registering the same account). Anyway, no problem except my line 2 wasn't an account I could use for testing because of certain settings. So, I instead disabled the line 1 number so I could use that account.
It all worked fine, but a side issue occurred. (That I didn't catch right away). I got the new adapter working like it should, and I was making phone calls. Later in the day, I went to use the other phone; connected to the PAP2, and it was dead. No problem, I knew I turned off line 1. Line 2 didn't work however. I thought I messed up the credentials or set something up wrong. I went back and forth with all the sip settings and user account information.
Bottom line: If you turn off line 1 in the PAP2, then line 2 automatically doesn't work. You can disable line 2, and line 1 will still work, but not the other way around. I'm sure it's only with the Sipura firmware. I'm sure a normal 2 port Linksys firmware PAP2 can have line 2 work without line 1, but apparently the Sipura firmware in the PAP2 can't.
Anyway, just some info for someone who might not have known this. (Like Me). For those who already knew this; (WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?) LOL!!! Just kidding. Later... Mike... |

| reply to christcorp Mike,
That happens because you chose to disable Line 1 of SPA 1001 fw. Off course when that happens, when Line 1 is disabled, pressing # will not work.
Choosing Line Enable as YES or NO is one way of not registering that account. There are many other ways. For example, let's say your user name for Line 1 is Mike1001. If you delete the 1 at the end and save the setting as Mike100, SPA Line 1 will try to register; but because user name is different, it won't register and will give you an error like Can't register... or Failed.
That is different than a disabled line. So, your line 1 is still enabled but can't register. In that, when you press #, you will switch from Line 1 to Line 2. When you want to use Line 1, simply add 1 at the end of user name which is Mike100 in my example and save the setting.
It is normal you had that problem because you completely disabled Line 1.
Also, I wish you posted this in the thread where we disscuss about PAP2 with SPA 1001 fw in it. Maybe some one else will have the same problem. Therefore, it is always good to find all valuable information in one place. -- SUKRU BEY, a Linksys PAP2 user |

| I had thought about posting there, but I figured this wasn't that important of a topic to the PAP2 and SPA1001, as more a recognition of my own stupidity. I figured it's good for a few posts then it will die. I'm sure there's enough users to point it out if it happens to someone else. Of course we have enough trouble hoping people will read a thread completely through; even the 20+ page threads; hopefully to find their answer prior to asking the same question over and over again.
If you think it's a good idea, I have no problem doing a past into the other thread just as a reminder, and then having Macy delete this thread. Whatever you think is most efficient. Later... Mike... |

There is no need the thread be deleted. It includes your experience. If you make a post in Mazilo's thread and link it here, then all valuable information will be related.
So, did the method I explain work for you? -- SUKRU BEY, a Linksys PAP2 user |

| Actually it did work. The only difference is, I didn't get any type of error or weird sound. The line was just dead air. Except I could push the # and get the 2nd dialtone. Thanks for the hint.
I'll post a link to this thread in the other thread when I get a chance. Unless someone beats me to it. Either way, thanks for the tip. Later... Mike.... |

Mike, Hate to break this to you, but... the above is 100% false once you understand how to configure the SPA1001 correctly.
Log in as ADMIN, ADVANCED MODE, and go to the PHONE TAB. Specify the "Default line" as "Line 2." Line 1 can now be disabled. So long as Line 2 is registered, you'll hear a dial tone.
Additional suggestion: Set "Line 1 Select Code" to be: * Set "Line 2 Select Code" to be: # (i.e. default value) Then if/when you have "dead air," you can forcibly choose which line to dial out on.
