Re: Verizon Goes to Court to bring FIOS TV to Mont County MD

Well one can hope they still keep it once they bring FiOS TV to Montgomery County(if they ever do; goddamn Comcrap).

Basic -Includes 15-35 local broadcast and public, education and government channels for $12.95 per month. The customer chooses digital or analog service. The digital service, which requires a set-top box, offers access to pay-per-view programming and the video- on-demand library. Customers who choose the analog service will receive only the local channel line-up.

Does this mean that if I get analog service, then I can't get basic cable channels like TBS and FX?

Can you imagine Comcast or Verizon offering a package at well below the usual ~40-50% profit margin (at least that's Comcast's profit margin, not sure about VZ)?

Keep in mind, the networks built by Comcast and Verizon are private networks. Their purpose is to generate profit - as much as possible. If either company does offer this package once the regulation is lifted, I'd look for the price to be almost double what it is currently.

Yes, it looks like you'll have to jump to VZ's $40 digital service if you want more than locals and PEGs. A few years back I made the leap to DirecTV (all digital, no analog). Even though I planned to hate them, I loved the receivers right away.

And no BarneyBadAss See Profile, VZ is not abusing us. Remember, we'll have 10 PEGs (with room to grow to 15 I think) on VZ's $13 tier. I'd say it's bargain.

btw - I think our public channels are always looking for fresh content. Maybe you could produce your own XXX show for all of us to watch.

Which category would that fall in, P, E, or G?

Public (as I specified).

If viewing porn is specifically permitted in our public libraries, why not broadcast it over the public airwaves? If Barney is willing of course.

Even without Barney's bad ass channel, our other PEG content makes the package worthwhile.
