| [Speed] 28/701 in NJ
last week my connection started testing in the mid to upper 20's but still the crappy 701 upload (see attached)
i also attached a screen cap of the task manager during my testing
is it true that if my ethernet card is 100 mbps and if i'm downloading a file at 25 mbps that the taskmanager will show 25% ?
i'm having a big argument about this with someone. if anyone has any links to prove me write or wrong i would appreciate it. he's telling me that the network task manager has nothing to do with connection speed
all i know is that when i test at 25 mbps, the task manager bumps up to 25% during the test. just seems logical to me that it's a way to verify connection speed if nothing else is running on the computer or using the connection at the same time |

| I just monitored my wireless connection via Task Manager. With my wireless being 54Mbps & my tier being 6000, my network utilization was 11%. I would say you are correct. -- Write me up a 125.......I Can't Drive 55 »redrocker.com/ »cabowabo.com/ |

2 edits | Weird! I used the NetAccess site for that test: »/stest?loc=9
I'll have to try an ftp.
Ok, the OOL ftp gave me a low 171 KB/sec(1368 kbps) Wireless utilization showed an average of 2% of 54 Mbps(1080 kbps) -- Write me up a 125.......I Can't Drive 55 »redrocker.com/ »cabowabo.com/ |

| reply to otk This is mine after running a speed test on my 8/768.
The spike at almost 1% is download, then the little spikes after are upload. This is on a 1Gbps LAN with a WRT54GS (running Thibor 15c) and a Motorola SB5100 with level readings at time of test:
Software Version: SB5100-2.3.1.3-SCM00-NOSH Hardware Version: 3 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.4
Downstream Value Frequency 609000000 Hz Locked Signal to Noise Ratio 38 dB Power Level 1 dB
Upstream Value Channel ID 8 Frequency 25000000 Hz Ranged Power Level 47 dBmV
Anyways, how does all this look? I know my signal levels are pretty good, but I don't know the current firmware for the SB5100? If it is out of date, how do I get the most up to date version? |

It runs pretty good still, even after 7 months of downloading things, trying and ditching. |

 Blazing Fast Download |
I do believe we have the 16mb download speed in New Jersey now. I used an ftp download, »ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/pub/test64 to test the speeds. This is a screen capture of the 64mb download. It started out with a burst of almost 36mbps then settled down to around 16mbps. It averaged 17.53mbps. The upload speeds I haven't tested yet. I'll post my results with that soon. -- My Blog on blogspot.com |

I can play any game I throw at it, there is no wait time for loading, no lag during gameplay. TV works fine, DVR works fine, record timers work fine...
Not a generic machine, TOTL VAIO. All the bells and whistles available in 2004. It does alot, and does it quite efficiently.

| reply to otk this is what someone told me in another forum when i posted the speeds i'm getting
*quote* Sounds a little improbable, given the electronics and technology of current modems and the physics of copper coax. What methods of speed computation are you using. If you're on Comcast, they advertise 6Mbps average high-speed internet bandwidth on downloads, with the ability to burst download up to 16Mpbs short term. Until someone re-invents the entire signal conditioning system whereby high-speed "sneak-along" digital data is modulated with digitzed tv sigs, I'm not sure that constant speeds above 8 Mpbs will be a reality. I'd like to be proven wrong, since I too would benefit. *end quote* |
