Re: Best way to renew DSL contract? Need some ideas please

Well, I took a look at Sonic.net today and called up ATT to give them one more chance to allow me to upgrade to elite without forcing me to add services to my phone line(that is never used) or I would just go with Sonic. After being transferred and being on hold for about a half hour.. I gave the nice lady on the other end the error code that I receive when trying to upgrade (237) and she gave me the elite deal for 27.99. I have to say that I'm really surprised...:) I also ordered the wireless gateway since I feel that my alcatel 1000 has seen better days.

I'm going to miss my static ip, but i think I'll survive.

oh, sonics 384-1.5mps is 12.94 a month, pro 1.5-3mb is 17.95 and elite 3-6mb/786k is 27.95.

go to sonic.net and the top banner ad says 9.95 - but on the signup page it does not state it. i emailed sonic to verify what this was for!

thanks for reply on cancelling dsl with sbc. a cust rep told me (i confirmed many times to make sure) i would get money back for rebate but he was wrong: change of equipment didn't qualify. so 6 months later i finally found out why i didnt get money back.

I just don't understand AT&T pricing.

My $14.95 contract was up June 11 and all they offered me was $34.95 a month on a one year contract.

What do they do, make up the prices as they go along?

Well I am also up for renewal for my DSL service in August ...I called AT&T after reading some of the threads here on Broadband Reports and it looks like everyone has their own version of how to renew. Unfortunately I can't upgrade my DSL service yet in my area cause there are no remote terminals for the higher speeds so I am stuck with the basic package...When I called I was told that they could not give me the the same price that I was paying which was $19.95 but that I could get a reduced rate to 14.95 if I added on several other services. If I didn't want to add on any additional services then I would have to pay 34.95.Then I said the "magic word" ok then I am gonna cancel my DSL and switch to Verizon...soon as I said that the sales person said well you said the magic word so now I can offer you the same rate as your prior contract was for....at this point I couldn't help but laugh...you mean to tell me all I had to say was that I am going to cancel my service and then I could get the same rate..geezzz whats this world coming tooo now !!!!So to all you people who don't have an option to upgrade or want to add on worthless add on services there you go!!!! Good Luck !!!!

well, I had to do a renewal, since they didn't announce my renewal date and then BOOM it showed up as 54.99$ a month!

So, I managed to get my pro speeds to maintain, at 12.99$ a month, BUT had to add two services, since I already had one. Net plus, 8.03$ a month, NET MINUS since the DSL is now cheaper, 14.99$ for a savings of 6+

Really wanted some better deal for higher upload speed, but it worked out.

i'm not a "new" customer. been with sbcglobal for a couple years. i just renewed for one year at $17,99.
it has always been my experience when renewing that i got the latest promotion going on at the time. last renewal, i had to sign up for at&t long distance service. that contract is now over, and the current contract has no such requirement, so i switched back to my old provider.
imho, it's all a silly game with no rules. just whatever the salesperson at the time thinks they can sell you. if you don't like what you're hearing, hang up, call back and speak to someone else.

I was in the same boat as you one week ago. I called ATT but they will not give me a better deal so I went signed up for the 3000/512 for $17.95 a month package with DSLExtreme.

It should be disclosed that the $19.99 Comcast HSI offer is contingent on also subscribing to cable TV. This is not a good deal for us DirecTV/Dish customers.

I had the same situation with the 1.5 mbps package at $14.95. ATT would not let me renew without paying for extra services or going to $19.99. So I cancelled, and just resigned up via Dell.

There should be analogous deals for 3 mbps service. Here are the options I found with 1.5 mbps service.
1. Switch to dslextreme or sonic.net. Both offer various features that ATT doesn't and probably results in the least downtime.
2. Sign up via ATT again. You can refer yourself and get $25.
3. Sign up via Dell. Pay $14.99 instead of $12.99 but get a $100 rebate.
4. If you have cable, switch to cable for a few months on a promo like comcastoffers.com. $19.99 for 8 mbps for 6 months. Free modem and $100 rebate. Then switch back to DSL using option 2 or 3 and get 3 months free.

Also, see the numerous threads at Fatwallet (»www.fatwallet.com/c/18) on SBC/AT&T deals / renewals.

  Hello everyone out there.

So I have the Pro Package at $21.95/mo in which my contract expires on August 9th, 2006.

I called up AT&T today to talk about my options and they gave me the following:

1) Re-up for 1 year and add 2 additional phone services (voicemail, call waiting, etc) and you can get DSL for $21.95/mo.

2) Re-up for 1 year and get DSL for $24.95 (this option was given to me by customer care after the first person only gave me the option of #1).

Well the web offer is $17.95/mo for 1 year and I understand that it is for new customers only. So why don't I just cancel my DSL line, after my contact expires and then go to the web site and re-sign up to get the cheaper deal. I understand that I will be out of a connect for a few days, but it is better than doing the $24.95/mo package.

Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions? I do appreciate it.
