| reply to chachazz On the subject of 917537 could someone enlighten me as to the meaning of this icon which appears against it in my Belarc listing.
It is not included in the Icon Legend appearing at the bottom of the hotfix lists.

| reply to Alwill Hi Alwill,
That icon shows that even though the hotfix is installed, it's not meeting the current security specification for that update. This usually happens when Microsoft revises an update/hotfix so there's a newer version that needs to be installed. You should also see 917537 shown as missing when that icon appears. |

 XP Pro SP2 with IIS | | KB917537 Installed Without IIS | |
The KB917537 update is only required by those running XP Pro (as well as W2K and W2K3 Server) and IIS. I, too, installed it on a non-IIS system and got the "missing hotfix" message and "broken lock" icon in Belarc. If you're not running IIS and have installed this hotfix, it's safe to remove it via Add/Remove as this vulnerability only affects IIS users. For fun, I installed IIS on my XP Pro SP2 system, ran WU and was immediately offered the KB917537 Update, which I installed. Belarc then correctly reported that my hotfixes were "up-to-date". I'm sure Belarc will provide a fix for this issue soon. (Great software, btw...) -- "I could be wrong, now... but I don't think so!" - Adrian Monk |
