Thanks for the notification, Just ran it on my XP Home SP2, and it came up with ...

Missing Microsoft Security Hotfixes:

Q917537 - Important (details...)

But, according to Microsoft
»support.microsoft.com/default.as···;Q917537
»www.microsoft.com/technet/securi···034.mspx

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-034
Vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Information Services using Active Server Pages Could Allow Remote Code Execution (917537)

Non-Affected Software:
• Microsoft Windows XP Home Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Windows XP Home Service Pack 2

I guess Belarc got this one wrong?

On the subject of 917537 could someone enlighten me as to the meaning of this icon which appears against it in my Belarc listing.

It is not included in the Icon Legend appearing at the bottom of the hotfix lists.

Running XP Pro SP2.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for letting us know about that. Our engineers are looking into the cause of that problem with 917537 and we'll get back to you when we have more.

Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Alwill,

That icon shows that even though the hotfix is installed, it's not meeting the current security specification for that update. This usually happens when Microsoft revises an update/hotfix so there's a newer version that needs to be installed. You should also see 917537 shown as missing when that icon appears.

XP Pro SP2 with IIS

KB917537 Installed Without IIS

The KB917537 update is only required by those running XP Pro (as well as W2K and W2K3 Server) and IIS. I, too, installed it on a non-IIS system and got the "missing hotfix" message and "broken lock" icon in Belarc. If you're not running IIS and have installed this hotfix, it's safe to remove it via Add/Remove as this vulnerability only affects IIS users.
For fun, I installed IIS on my XP Pro SP2 system, ran WU and was immediately offered the KB917537 Update, which I installed. Belarc then correctly reported that my hotfixes were "up-to-date". I'm sure Belarc will provide a fix for this issue soon. (Great software, btw...)

It just tells me one security update is missing, but does not tell me which(all the ones it shows have green ticks). Both Microsoft update and Baseline security analyzer say all security updates are installed.

XP SP2 home all updates.

Thank you for clarifying the meaning of the 'broken lock' icon.
