| [Malaria Control] Deadline Problem
I just found one of my machines crunching wu's whose deadline was the 13th after it had done the wu's for the 14th.
Needless to say, none of those results made it in. I have always trusted BOINC's ability to deal with deadlines, till now. Has anyone else seen this behavior? -- One has to multiply thoughts to the point where there aren't enough policemen to control them - Stanislaw Jerzey |

| Yes. The tasks are crunched FIFO until BOINC detects a deadline problem then it goes into EDF mode.
The next version will work a little better instead of going into true EDF mode tasks with deadline problems will get more CPU time. I don't think we managed to convince JM7 that EDF is better than FIFO before deadline problems start though.
Note: This applies to a single project situation. |

| reply to m00kie Certainly hope this gets straightened out. I had malaria on a very fast machine, decided to move it over to another project, then load Malaria on another rig. I had set it to no new work last Thursday, Saturday I saw it still had 50 wu's lwft, all with deadlines within the next hour. I just detached from Malaria and switched the box over to another project.

| reply to m00kie At the moment, crunching four applications. Seti, Einstein, Rosetta and Malaria. So far, I've not experienced any past due deadline work units.
But...
I keep a pretty close eye on my little fleet, watching for the occasional "stuck" work unit. If a restart of boinc doesn't clear the problem, I abort the work unit.
Thank goodness for BoincView. -- Hello, my name is Bill and I'm a crunchaholic...

| reply to m00kie Aye. Very short deadlines on Malaria, like 2 days. This is one of those projects you either have to watch or reduce caches significantly.
My preferences are set to connect every 3 days which can make Malaria kind of tricky -- One has to multiply thoughts to the point where there aren't enough policemen to control them - Stanislaw Jerzey |
