Not everything out there is included in this Personal Firewall list and some with a zero vote last year aren't added either. This is primarily a software firewall poll to see what your preferred choice is. Should yours not be on the list, please choose option “Other” and tell us more about it such as: features not found elsewhere, your experience, and a link to it would be welcome .

Some firewalls come in free/pay versions, and some of you use older rather than newer versions of certain firewalls. Distinction between those is not visible in the poll, and providing that sort of info in your post is appreciated.

Thanks in advance to everyone for participating!

Nice job, dandy!

I am using Kerio 2.15 with BlitzenZeus See Profile's ruleset.

Along with my router, works fine for me.

On my XP Pro box XP's firewall is enabled. On my Ubuntu box I don't have a software firewall going. Both machines are behind a Zyxel 550 router which has a hardware firewall. I know that doesn't keep track of all outgoing program requests but I'm the main user and I practice safe hex. If I had kids at home I'd probably have something else running.

I use the Windows XP firewall and I'm satisfied with it. On my old computer, I used Kerio and really liked it.

I actually said none. I don't use a software firewall or hardware firewall. I'm on dial-up and I reeally don't need a router and software firewalls cause me problems then they are worth. They slow my connection down even more then what it is already, hard to believe that when my speed is only 26.4k and they keep me out of my games and I need to turn the firewall off anyway. I have been this way for 3 years, sure I have tried a few here and there, but none of the ones I have tried give me any statisfaction. So for me, none is better then any of them.

Kerio. Highly configureable and logs are easy to manage and read and export. Captures everything.

Used ZA on the laptop for a while because of it's application control system, but the logs are hard to read and hard to work with. Otherwise it's decent.

Etrust and Tiny were overly-complicated for what they are. Windows XP firewall? Not nearly as robust as it needs to be. Pffft.

Sygate before Symantec bought them out. I use it for outbound alerts. I'm also behind a router. I tried the Comodo F/W but it still has some bugs that need to be resolved before I'd use it full time.

ZoneAlarm Pro 5.5 5.5.094.000 behind a NAT/SPI router.

Staying with ZA Pro 5.5 5.5.094.000 until no longer safe/secure to use then will be looking for another software firewall -- besides the problems users have been having with the ZA 6.x versions, ZA Pro 6.x is bloated with too much non-firewall features.

Use Kaspersky Anti Hacker here on this box.

If I was allowed to vote twice, i'd pick Look n Stop as well, due to being simple and effective.

I've been using Kerio 2.15 for years and am still quite happy with it. Am testing Comodo at the moment and while I like what I see, I will probably stick with Kerio in the end though.

I use the free version of Zone Alarm on all my computers. I started using it when I got DSL about six years ago. At that time it got high ratings. I use it instead of Xps firewall because it blocks outbound and tells you what program is trying to connect outbound. However my primary defense is a Zywall 5 which defaults to blocking everything inbound and outbound execpt the ports I allow in the firewall rules.

Thank you very much but can't take much credit, used the great polls of this year and years past as excellent reference material!
