said by Slidetbone :How many people share that DS3 is the question I would ask. Then, I would assert a post. Lots, but the average usage is around 3mbit. I routinely get close to 45mbit downloading multiple ISOs, but BBR's speed test has never given me about 28mbit download speed, though I just ran a quick test right now, an got 35mbit upload speed at megapath.
But...who needs all that bandwidth? And will the backbone routers handle users with that speed? There is already congestion on many routes in major cities that Verizon cannot fix if the BBN, UUNet and other backbones are not updated to handle the traffic.
You will go as fast as the backbone will let you go. It's a luxury. Not many home users *need* it, but it's nice when downloading big things. As for the backbone, I don't think it's the bottle neck most of the time. The two last miles on either end are usually the culprits. -- Have problems running your Windows box as a limited user?
