Equipment Wanted Threads...

Taking input from the members here, not promising to use any of it, but at least I offered

Previously all "equipment wanted" type postings were directed to the "For Sale" sticky thread. Now that seems to be kind of misleading, especially to any new visitors to the forum. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't expect to see "equipment wanted" stuff in a "for sale" topic?

I guess question is, do those of you having equipment to sell or knowing of pretty good sources of stuff look at the For Sale thread for people looking to buy?

Should we continue that policy (keep in mind that right now because of the cluttered condition of things in the past in that thread) the plan is to unsticky at end of each month and start over?

Or should we maybe have:
#1 - nothing, let "equipment needed/want to buy" threads stand on their own, or
#2 - maybe have a separate sticky for that category?
#3 - got a better idea?

...then THINK! again!!

Re: Equipment Wanted Threads...

I've posted stuff recently. If that's what your asking. I've alos been browsing it alot lately since it's been cleaned up quite a bit.

I always thought stickys were clutter. Let the threads stand on there own, if there is no interest they will fade away all by themselves. Save the stickys for "life and death" posts. I can't disagree with Aaron though, it has been a lot better since it has been cleaned up.

I was under impression that we weren't supposed to post "equipment wanted" in the "for sale" thread. I like the new "for sale" thread with it's limited duration. I don't see how it would hurt to have an "equipment wanted" thread also. I don't think that individual posts really work for this type of thing as the volume of posts in this forum makes them disappear quickly or encourages "bump" type of posts. By having a thread that ends at a certain date it allows a poster to repost in the new thread if they are still looking / selling and I like that!

I'd probably have to agree with robbin. I wouldn't mind individual posts for equipment, but that would get real ugly real quick.

It might be helpful to have one sticky for "for sale" equipment and another for "equipment needed." Both of which would get un-stickied at the end of the month and re-created. If you still haven't sold or gotten what you want it doesn't take too long to re-post in the new sticky.

Sorry for the confusion - the concept behind the equipment sticky at the top of the forum was that it was supposed to be "Equipment For Sale / Wanted"

That's the way we did it in Satellite and it seems to work fine.

edit: I fixed the title on the "sticky" so it's a bit more clear. We can revisit this issue and make changes as we go along so that it works for you guys.
