OT-We still need an 80Gig Nano Vidipod to store all the movies they want you to buy and access quickly. Which reminds me, just how many people really watch movies more than once? (excluding babysitting excuses and the trekkie)  | |

However, I still think it'll be a big success down the road. At first, I'm thinking iTunes/Apple will get slammed with criticism about it but still be a pioneer in that respect of bring movies to your desktop for a price (at least I know of know Mac-compatible sites for movie rentals/downloads at the current time though I'm sure there are Windows-based sites). And people will rent the movies -- that's the thing. I agree they'd be dummies for doing it, but I have a hunch it'll be successful. Call me crazy  Ummm please, stop right here. Don't start another fake 'being-first' urban legend about Apple (like CD-ROM, DVD, gigabit, Firewire etc), please.

| 9.99 to OWN is what he's talking about. Renting would obviously be cheaper cause who would pay 10 bucks to rent a downloaded movie. I'd say the success will be based on the quality of the movies. If they're the iPod resolution of 320x240 then I can't see a lot of people buying them. TV shows can get away with this quality because they're usually not "action" like a lot of movies are. You want a large screen for a movie but not necessarily a TV show. | |

You can buy movies on DVD from $9, let alone that Netflix starts at $6/mo.
They have to price it at $2 or less otherwise it won't fly. | |

The movie studios are idiots.
The iTunes music store thrives even though many, many people still steal music. By giving consumers an option of buying movies online they are basically getting "Free" money that would normally be lost.
While I'm sure many here prefer piracy, there are always people that want to be legit, and currently no one wants to sell downloads to them.
If this rumor is true, I would have to imagine the other announcement is an iPod designed for movie viewing...
