| Pagerank issues... Hey guys, my site has dropped to 0pr, Ive been reading, and that seems to mean its penilized. Im unsure for what, but I did some link research, and it seems that »www.ghosthuntingworld.com/connec···aunting/ and a few other pages that look like spam have listed me. If I do link check on google, it shows nothing now, but all the other search engines seam to show rhe links fine.
Do you think thats why or is it something Ive done on the page? Its the one on my sig

New Haven, CT | Re: Pagerank issues... it don't work that way.. both sites have to be linked to be penalized, in other words if you don't link to the reffering site then you're fine.. a decreade in PR doesn't mean you're being penalized.. there are many other reasons. | |

| Hrmmm I read that, but what puzzles me is that now when I Link:www.mysite.com nothing comes up in google, even thought the pages that link to me are cached and stuff... I dont really link any sites, except for a few, which I will be removing. The others are not recipricle...
Any ideas?

| I don't know what you are checking your Pagerank with, but if it's anything other than the Google Toolbar, it isn't working.
According to this site, Google started messing with PR about a week ago, and is reporting live rankings at 0 right now. My bet is things will be restored soon.
What are you using to check your PR?

How relevant were the linking sites to the content of yours? How about their importance and meaning to the SE's? Were they well-made sites with valuable content or link farms?
Was the anchor text in those links different from site to site?

| Im trying to push basically the same keywords with some variations, but that brings up a good question.
If a site has high pagerank, does it matter if its topic is about what your looking for? I know it would be better, but I have 1 comming from a pagerank 6 thats letting me do a redesign (very very simple stuff, and a friend) that has nothing to do with the site, but shouldent that help a pagerank 0?
Some of the people Im trying to pass in rankings have some shadey links from .edu's like student pages with just their link on them...
Any tips about link building appreciated, I have been reading alot, but theres alot of conflicting info.

| Re: Pagerank issues... First, good SEO requires patience. The faster you try to boost your ranking, the more likely you are to do something Google doesn't like. All sites are in Google's sandbox for the first 6 to 12 months, or so they say. PR can be obtained quickly, but you are more likely to be punished for this rather than obtaining it organically.

It depends. If the site with a PR of 6 is about dog food, and your site is about web design, Google will start thinking your site is about dog food, or at least has a lot to do with it. You can try to work around this by getting the dog food site to use anchor text and surrounding anchor text that means web design (or your targeted keywords), but it may not help a lot.
Keep in mind PR doesn't have much to do with search engine placement. It's more just a popularity contest that may help your rankings a little. You can have a PR of 6 and still be nowhere near the top in a search for 'web design'. Likewise, a site with a pagerank of 1 can still be really high in the search results for a given keyword.

They carry a lot of weight. If these people really are practicing shady techniques, Google will out them sooner or later.
