| comprehensive web design book?
Hello...
I just started a new job at a nonprofit and we need help with our webpage, since I am the most technologically adept out of the bunch it is up to me to get everything under control. I have a very basic knowledge of html (enough to make my eBay auctions and myspace pages look decent.) I am not looking to replace the person we outsource the webmastering to, however I need to develop a reasonable understanding of the inner workings of a website, since we feel we aren't getting our money's worth.
So can anyone recommend a good starting point? From what I have read so far it seems like I should be learning xhtml... is that right? I'd like to eventually get some rss feeds up on our site as well (as well as be able to accept donations)
Also, we can get some good deals on software packages ($140 for an Adobe bundle) what do y'all think? should I be starting with Frontpage instead?
any pointers are appreciated! ) |

If you are starting from scratch, forget about spending money on software and stick with a free text editor until you know your way around web page creation. Notepad++ works pretty well and is free.
As for a starting point, do start with XHTML and CSS. You might check out HTMLDog.com for some good lesssons (free).
And I would suggest never touching Frontpage. -- geek on web |
