Re: Configuring Vonage to work with SBC and Macintosh

I am trying configure my Linksys wired router for Vonage to work with my 2wire wireless DSL modem for a Imac G4 running OSX 10.4. I can get the SBC DSL working with the 2Wire modem which uses a PPOe to sign on but I know the Vonage Linksys wired router uses DCPH. If anyone can give me a hint as to how to configure this setup I would greatly appreciate it.
Didn't know SBC served any part of Antelope, thought it was all Surewest/Roseville Telephone. Wish I had SBC DSL available to me at under $20

1. Having a Mac is unimportant in terms of having Vonage working in your home. The 2Wire modem is all you need to worry about.

2. The 2wire should provide a DHCP address for the Vonage box. It provides local DHCP IP addresses for computers (look in your Mac and see what IP it is using) and should provide a local IP address for your Vonage box.

3. PPPoE isn't important here. Your Vonage box will send a signal to Vonage every so often, maintaining a constant link which should keep your modem logged on. If not, you need to change the setting in your 2Wire that tells it when to disconnect after "idling" for a period of time.

So all you should have to do is plug the Vonage adapter into one of the several LAN ports in the back of the 2Wire modem. No need to worry about the Macintosh. After being plugged into the 2Wire LAN port, wait a minute or so and so if you have a dial tone. If you don't, the problem most likely lies in whatever setting the 2Wire is using. My son uses 2Wire in Foothill Farms (near Antelope) and it works just fine with his computer and VOIP adapter. The 2Wire gives out DHCP addresses and is quite reliable.

Hey Preston,
Thanks for the reply, I finally got my setup configured correctly. Since Antelope is considered part of Sacramento County we are not restricted to Roseville's deal with Surewest thank god. I've had SBC DSL since 2002 when living down in San Jose, now that I moved up here, I cancelled old account ordered the wireless package and once again am eligible for the intro price of $12.95
