AOL has been a company in search of a business model for close to five years now. Time for the management to put it out of our misery. I'm sure I'll get flamed to death by the "My mother loves AOL" and the "I've had my .@aol.com email address for ten years" crowd but it's time to draw the curtains on the whole sorry affair. All they can manage to muster over the last couple of months is this "/discuss" nonsense. "Do YOU think the Internet is a good idea?" Is Freedom of Speech a good idea? "Do chili farts leave skidmarks?" Give me a break! Wind it up and return the money to the shareholders!

To paraphrase a comment made on Cnet - If AOL ceased to exist today - say Time Warner sold the company and gave the money back to the shareholders - nobody outside the company would care. Another ISP would simply slide into place and the mediocrity would continue unabated.
