What I've been doing this summer

Okay, folks, here it is!

I think we should start a new thread here in the Security Forum. We can call it "What I've been doing this summer". For all the people who have nothing of consequence to say, yet really yearn to post in the Forum, this will be their golden opportunity. (I'll just put the entire damn thread on 'Ignore' and we'll all be perfectly happy -- until WCB finally gets irritated.)

You can put this thread on your list of "things to do when I've nothing to do". Post away to your heart's content.

Now, if I can just figure out how to IGNORE a thread that I've started.

Joseph V. Morris

Lol, on ya jvmorris !

I read a thread the other day about people being ignored - »Don't IM me if you have me on ignore...

You not thinking of IM to yourself to say you are ignoring you

But i have to be off topic, it's winter down here,
2 deg cel more at 7 am. I know it's not as cold as some of the snow covered country, but when you get 38- 45 deg cel on a normal summer's day here, well 2 is cold

Sorry to hear about the heat wave over in America, hope you all get through it ok.

Edit: first time i used this star rating's feature, you may be news by the end of the day, if enough people rate it

I really have nothing to say and this seems like the place to do it.

This is a preemptive post reply.
It's intended to thwart those that would send me the following IM.
"Here's a thread that you are qualified to post in!"

I have an excellent contribution to make to this thread, but unfortunately there isn't enough room here to contain my article.

Well it's something to do when you have nothing else to do.

Finally, competition for the Nancy Grace and Glenn Beck shows on CNN headline news, and the Fox News shout-a-thons ...

EDIT - added Rush Limbaugh, Al Franken and the other talk show numnuts. You'll put 'em all out of business.

Let see did one 500 dollar clean up job on a pretty intresting set up. Not just mal ware clean up but just general cleaning out the old personal junk that was unused on the computer. This thing was hardened both physically and software wise.

Each of the 10 users of the system had their own hard drive. Some here have likly worked on hot swap systems before. But this one was unique in how it was done. Was your typical cube work station one side for hd other for psu mother board vid etc. It was thick steel bolted to the floor all the covers locked with heavy duty pad locks with shackle gaurds to prevent bolt cutter use. All locks were keyed with 4 way keys each side of the key had a diffrent key cut.The cool part though was how the set up for the hds worked. It was a mechanical device that was worked by key from the fornt. All 10 hds pluss the work hd hd were inside the case.

It was a freakign hd changer. Each hd had a full os install. All the user hds were running admin accounts and were for personal off the clock use.

Basically the buiss owner didnt care how badly messed up the install were on these hds.

So essentially that single computer was realy 10 computers i worked on. It was fairly clean maybe 200 or so spyware apps some runnign some not total over 10 os installs. Seems he runs a pretty tight ship. Where the mess realy was was cleanign out 30+ gigs of unplayed game demos stuff like that. The spyware clean up took all of maybe 2 hours rest took about 10 hours over the 2 ddays.

Its the first time ive enjoyed working on some one elses computer in a long while. I enjoyed the uniqueness of the set up. Not to often you get to work on such a strange machine.

Other than that my summer has been quite un eventful still no full time job still looking did a few decent bike rides down the tow path but thats about it.

Ok there is something I have been itching to say for a very very long time but now that you started a thread like this I think I will just go post it in another forum.

Not that you really would have wanted to, but it could have come in handy here:

»Did they screw up LiveUpdate?

Those were the good old days when security topics took three pages for one day. Now look at this place, three days on one page.

I think my bestest thing this summer would be the guy I fixed in 2 minutes.

He agreed before hand what my price was...and said I'll just bring the box over, you can figure out the password. (that was the problem...lost the admin pw.).

Well he brought it in, I turned it on, typed Administrator and Password...hit enter...and POOF.

My bank thanked him.
