| NAV 2006 problem
After updating virus definitions with all updates on July 28th I find when I boot up my windows XP computer a message saying Norton 2006 does not support repair and requests me to uninstall and reinstall. I have to click OK to continue booting up. Anyone know anything about this and how do I get rid of this annoyance. |

| Happened to me today to,said okay have not seen it since.

| reply to DrDemento There is something in the most recent update that has caused the problem but talking to Symantec was useless. I am pretty sure that going through an uninstall followed by reinstalling and then running Liveupdate and getting the most recent update will cause this to occur again. Wonder if anyone else is seeing this and has a solution. |

| You could always try system restore, though if it was the update, like you said -- the minute Live Update runs again, it'll be back. Of course you'll have a lot of company if you're right 
Maybe you could wait for the next intelligent update release (or try today's if you think it's worth a shot) and manually apply it to fully replace your existing definitions. |

| reply to DrDemento Resolution! When nothing else seemed to work uninstalled NAV 2006 and then reinstalled. So far the annoying message has not recurred. If anyone else is seeing this, it looks like something in the July 28th update causes it but can be corrected with an uninstall/reinstall. |

This problem is caused by a recent update on 28th July liveupdate. This problem can be solved in this way: Solution :
Step 1 : Download & Install Windows Cleanup Utility
»download.microsoft.com/download/···cuu2.exe
Step 2 : Click on Open Windows Cleanup Utility(Start --> All Programs --> Windows Cleanup Utility)
Step 3 : Removed the Entry by the name : NAV2006 12.2.1.13
Step 4 : Close all the programs
Step 5 : Restart the computer to verify
Reason to do is, the above said file is conflicting to the recent liveupdate. It has been identified by symantec it has been revoked on 29th 7AM PST itself. Even uninstallation and reinstallation will work after the above said time but the above steps will consume your time.

| Hi, encountered same "problem" and went through symantec online help. Did all except reinstall. Saw this posting and glad to see not the only one and saw these instructions which looked earier than reinstalling but noticed something different. downloaded the cleanup utility and it installed Go to Start --> All Programs --> I see Windows Install Clean up. (you might have meant that) I click on that and it brings up cleanup screen, scroll down, I see Norton Antivirus 2006 12.2.0.13. not the version you have. Is that what you meant?
What does this utility actually do? Any affects on NAV and rest of my machine?
Also where in symantec did you get this information? Link?

Symantec is currently responding to a LiveUpdate patching error. If you are seeing the message, Norton does not support the Repair feature, please cancel out of that dialog. If the error is repeated following another computer restart, cancel out of that message as well. Your Norton program will continue to function properly despite these messages. Symantec will post a resolution to LiveUpdate shortly. Please run LiveUpdate daily. |

| I spoke to a second and third level tek in regards to this problem (even with a priorty number)it took 35 minutes to get thru and they are well aware of the problem.They assured me that the program is functioning properly and they will be fixing it soon.I sure hope thats the truth Oh well some paranoa is telling me to do their on line scan |

2 edits | we've been experiencing same problem and i was about to give up on symantec and nav for good. based on these reported developments, i'll wait one week for a resolution before uninstalling and buying something from someone else

| Good find btaylor1, what an odd solution. It'd be nice if Symantec had included a bit more info on the problem/workaround.
Judging by the number of replies this topic has gotten, this hasn't hit a lot of people (myself included, at least up til now). Was what preceded it an update released through a manual Live Update run, as opposed to the auto av def update I initially thought it to be? |

| reply to DrDemento This kind of jazz is exactly why I have three full versions of NAV (2002, 2003, 2005)but don't use either one of them. I bought the full version three times because I was so faithful to them. But it seemed like every other time I updated, the update would break it. Then I couldn't find the info I needed on their website to fix it. Like searching for a needle in a haystack. 
So finally I uninstalled it and installed Windows Defender and Windows OneCare. Then I setup a Smoothwall hardware firewall, and never looked back. No muss no fuss, but most importantly, no more problems.

I finally had it with NAV about a week ago and loaded NOD32 instead... On my other computer I've loaded Microsoft's latest LiveOne... |
