| reply to firewire9999 Re: Weird stuff with Earthlink/Covad connection issue
A theory: Something I've seen - a network connection becomes marginal at the electrical interface. Very few devices can successfully talk to it and in your case this is, so far, only the NIC in your PC can talk to the Arescom.
A bad cable can also create such an extremely "picky" connection.
The LINK lights on each end may not indicate the problem - but take a look in case it does. They better always light when connected. |

| reply to firewire9999 You can Login with the XP PPPoE Client but you have 3 Routers that cannot Login to Earthlink (was the Earthkey spelling earlier a typo or what?) using their built in PPPoE?
Sounds like something changed and the routers are needing updates. What does a trace route and reverse trace show you for your XP PPPoE Routing?

| reply to Bill_MI Nope all was working well until this morning.
Looked on earthlink network status. Stated covad was dueing maintenance through the 7/31 and login in problems could happen. Just never thought it would have happened connected via a router (smc router does pppoe with earthlink). I currently have my pc connection into the dsl modem and logging in via windows xp broadband setup.
Just weird. Plus I've tried to other routers (backup and new one I was going to upgrade to, they have the same issues.) |

| reply to firewire9999 Howdy, neighbor. No changes here. Could the SMC WAN have gone bad? Can the SMC WAN (set to static or DHCP) talk to the Arescom at all?
I caught authentication changes a few years ago when authentication changed (CHAP or PAP, I never remember which) and some routers were left behind. Awfully late for that now, though. |

| I've Earthlink/Covad for over 3 years now without any major issues. Weird one started today where my none of my computers on the network can use the internet (setup via smc router talking to arescom netdsl 800).
The PPPoe connection from the SMC router will not connect to earthkey at all. Now if I setup my computer directly to the arescom 800 and allow windows xp to talk direcly to it via PPPoe, it connects with no problems. Nothing in the setup has changed at all - Just wierd.
I saw covad is doing some network related stuff.
Anyone having issues like this? |
