| Help Configuring My Gigabit Network Adapter
I'm currently using a DGE-530T Gigabit D-Link network adapter card and I don't think it's configured right. When checking my Local Area Connection it says that I'm at 100.0 Mbps. With a gigabit card shouldn't it change to 1000.0 Mbps? What would I have to do to make that modification? |

| I don't have my router connected just yet. I would imagine it's connected to a switch in the D-Link adapter program on my computer in which I haven't been unable to locate. It suppose to have some sort of a control panel with a cable checker but I hadn't been able to locate it. I called and spoke to a D-Link Tech. and he said that he would have to get back with me by emailing me about that. It seems as though he was going to make some changes in my local area connection properties in order to raise the Mbps if that's possible. |

@verizon.net | reply to Larkina You need to set your router to auto instead of 10/100/1000 mode. |

| Right now I just have it installed in my computer. I hadn't tried to hook my router up yet. My thinking was that it would boost my network connection on computer but I think and what I'm hearing is that you really want notice the performance end of it until you hookup a device such as a router etc. I'm I not correct? |

| reply to Larkina Firstly, if it's not plugged into anything it won't be returning a link speed... Secondly, how can it speed up your network connection if its not connected to the network? To answer definitively you will not notice any difference until you connect it to a gigabit networking device. There is a school of thought that gigabit NICs generally have larger buffers, and support more advanced features such as TCP checksum offloading, and while this can be true these features are only beneficial in some circumstances, so once again the simple answer is in order to benefit from your gigE card you need a gigE switch/router. |

| Thank you for the advice it sure does make sense to me. I will connect my current router although I don't think it's a gigabit device therefore it will only max. out on whatever the max. settings are for my router unit. Like you said I won't really notice the difference until I hookup to a device that's gigabit capable. Thank you again for the help. |
