You're right that a lot of people don't care about the always on part. But joe sixpacks DO care a lot about speed, and they are willing to pay to speed things up. Joe is extremely impatient.

The lure of not tying up a phoneline (and/or not having to pay for a second line) usually makes the overall investment worthwhile.
