| [TWC] Ads on TV Guide
I was just switched from Comcast to TWC. One thing comcast did right was their TV Guide. Now TWC has this big ad at the bottom, that removes one of my channel selections on the guide. Is there any way to remove this? My eyes are having a hard time focusing on the channel choices now. |

I haven't found a way to disable this, but I sure as **** won't click on the ad! |

| reply to acksman I was just switched as well, and am very disappointed so far. Having an ad on my tv guide that actually takes away functionality (less screen to view the guide) is unacceptable given how much this service costs.
I also noticed that all of the free High Def on-demand movies are gone, and there are only three pay movies left.
And no more NFL network.
I haven't really looked very hard, I'm sure there are more changes. This is just what I have noticed missing from the features I use daily.
So far, TWC sucks worse that Comcast. Wow. -- The visionary is always right. |

| reply to acksman I don't see any of these "ads" (commercials maybe) others see on the TVGuide channel. I use the channel guide built into the system anyway. I never use the TVGuide channel. -- There is nothing more valuable than a man whos loyalty can be purchased with cold hard cash. |

| reply to acksman Ads referred to are from using cable boxes, and selecting Guide to scroll through channels and shows info on each. Yes it can be somewhat annoying at times. I actually like the look and feel of this guide much better then before. Even with the single ad on bottom. All the ad does even after Clicking on is give a number to contact for further information it doesnt take anywhere else or disrupt viewing. The Ad itself doesn't block one of the channel selections it just displaces the area that could have shown an extra channel instead. -------------------- The NFL Network was placed back due to FCC instructing to do so to TWC. -------------------- It's not that either Comcast or Time Warner is better then the other as far as OnDemand service. It boils down to who had what agreements as far as content provided. Albeit OnDemand is a free feature no matter how many times it is discussed, and over and beyond the typical cable service offerings.
Comcast had agreements for 2200+ hrs of content TWC has agreements for 1100+ hrs of content
Hopefully as time goes on TWC will get more content like Comcast had to offer for free. ---------------- Lol, I like the statement "So far, TWC sucks worse then Comcast. Wow" So, basically the top two providers in the nation suck completely why should either ever try to compete or better their business. It's a hands down they Suck! -- I'm just a youngster so what would I know! - LMAOROFL! -=)--=Pure OUT!=--(=- |

| reply to acksman Weird. I read this thread and was saying to myself, I know what you mean! lol Adelphia always had Ads so I never knew any different and I noticed the Ad yesterday again (i am now TW since the sale). After reading this thread, I pressed guide on my remote for the heck of it to see what the ad was for, and what do you know, there is no Ad. I know it was there yesterday. Maybe no Ads on the weekend? Who knows. Just kind of interesting. |

1 edit | reply to acksman I really don't think I can get Dish Network or Direct TV where I live, because 1) I'm right on the side of a mountain and 2) there's trees everywhere, and 3) I can't cut trees down since I rent and don't own the property. BUT if Comcast decided to put ad's on my guide, I'd have a Dish Network guy out to survey and see if it was possible to get dish. And I would save lots of money since DSL is much cheaper also.
If Comcast wants my $145 a month for Digital + DVR + HBO/Showtime/Starz/ 6Meg HSI, they can keep the ads off. If I want to look at ads I'll go to their Shopping on demand or watch commercials. |

What did you have before? For me, nothing has changed, other than the addition of the ad. I've been looking at this same interface for 2 years (ad-free). Was this new guide interface just rolled out to other subs?
NFL Network is back. Still far less on-demand content. The ad disappeared Saturday night for an hour, but then came back.
Can anyone report any *benefits* of the move from Comcast to TWC? So far I've only lost features/functions. Help me see the positive side. -- The visionary is always right. |

| Thanks for the trick on the guide setup. I would have gone with Satellite, but I so hate 1 year commitments that they require.
I have also had the add disappear a couple days as well, but come back. I wonder if its being turned off at the Dallas hub and someone is being told to turn it back on? I know they have been getting tons of complaints, I was one of them, heh. The operator said many have been calling in and complaining since the switch over and no one likes it. |

1 edit | reply to acksman Depending on the box in use guide may look somewhat as it did with Comcast. I have the silver single tuner HD w/DVR - DCT6208 With changeover I can see a much improved guide with several choices in colors, see channel in top right corner, and NO annoying ads on left side (I had two boxes on left previously for ads) as I viewed guide searching - Just see the single ad on bottom and after the suggestion to change to single height it barely catches my attention. The guide also seems crisper then before it looked very blotched out and basic. The same change happened on my smaller black boxes that are DCT2524. I live in the Dallas A/B system - So, single line areas that have the dual tuner boxes possibly had something familiar to new guide already.
If Ad is annoying that is your right to call and request to have removed. All it takes is trying and if get enough people annoyed they might just take it off, dunno.
-------------------------------------------------
The NFL Network issue has been around and Time Warner was in disputes with them LONG before Dallas changeover. If it stays is all up to what can be agreed on both NFL Network and Time Warner Cable's side.
------------------------------------------------ The OnDemand content is also something else no different in other Time Warner areas. They just don't have the same access/agreements as Comcast does. Comcast 2200+ hrs --- Time Warner 1100+ hrs
I am seeing a trend that many have gotten use to having slightly more then commonly use to by many other cable companies and customers have become use to that. OnDemand has always been a free service (in general usage, besides premium content paid for) and only there to add to enjoyment of existing cable line-up. Another thing that if enough people call to voice opinion they just may add more if possible.
I haven't seen the HD problems with a few channels as some have seen. I will continue to look and advise others at work of what is seen.
I do my best to think back before I started working in Cable industry and what I had as far a cable service and I have yet to see any combination of events to push me to other avenues. The internet has been great, digital phone is very nice (this is not the Voip version, original POTS line is still very bad in comparison), and video service has been fine. I have tried Satellite and will never go back. ============================================ Time Warner will be working on improvements to systems all over Dallas. network/headend/nodes/hardlines Anything they see that needs upgrades is in the works to be fixed.
For those that do not like current service only time will tell and it will get better. Anyone that cancels and goes to other services, that is completely understandable if unhappy with a service.
