It would be nice.

As a dual-platform user, I'd like to see better Mac support from the major ISPs and from other software providers (Google, I'd like Picasa for my Mac please kthxbye). But the whole "discount for not getting the whole service" saw is as old as garbage and about as useful. As an ex-tech support rep, I heard this all the time, and it's a garbage argument. You pay for access. Anything else is just gravy. No discounts for email downtime, software, anything else. You don't use your newsgroups, I'll bet. You won't get a discount on those either.
I don't like the no-Mac support situation either, but bringing the discount argument into it is just going to weaken your whole premise.

Re: It would be nice.

I havent gotten any freebies from my ISP either (Charter) but its all crap, so who cares? I dont need the virus and spyware stuff *because* I have a Mac, and the Music Match junk they offer is worthless.

As another user says, having a Mac prevents them from screwing up my computer the way they have screwed up some people's PCs. Oh, and when I call in, I dont tell them I have a Mac, because I either get the "we dont support Macs" or my computer is blamed for their network issues, automatically.

Re: It would be nice.

Don't you hate that?

Case in point:

Tech: What seems to be the problem?
Me: My DSL modem won't sync
Tech: What OS are you running?
Me: Does it matter?
Tech: Of course!
Me: OSX 10.4
Tech: That's why, DSL technology is incompatible with macintosh systems. Get a PC.
Me: No!

Re: It would be nice.

I've had a similar conversation with Verizon DSL before. Once I stated that I was connecting with a Mac, they shunted me off to the one Mac support rep they had (with the additional hold time).

Re: It would be nice.

You must've called on a bad day (not that this sort of thing can be planned, of course). Usually the mac people are the ones sitting around waiting for calls.

Given that new Macs can now run Windows, I'm surprised that such a response hasn't become commonplace for Mac users who complain about things not working for them.

I'm currently in a dual platform world myself. I have a Windows desktop that I built, and a MacBook Pro.

I use the Mac most of the time now, but still use the Windows desktop on occasion. The only thing I downloaded from Comcast (before I switched to DSL) was the virus scan software. I never used the other stuff, even though I had Windows.

All I want from my ISP is internet service.

I guess that's why they call it an internet service provider....
